Sheffield Utd vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 21st January 2020
Kick off at 7:30pm GMT
Venue: Bramall Lane

Match Preview:

Pound for pound Chris Wilder manager of Sheffield United has been one of the best managers in the Premier League. Not many people would have expected the club to be in the top 7 at this stage of the season but they keep plugging the results.

This past weekend they were losing 1-0 to Arsenal away from home, but they showed their superiority as the game went on and were finally rewarded with a 1-1 result. That kept the Blades 4 points clear of Arsenal.

They have lost two games recently but both of those were against Manchester City and Liverpool. With some luck the club could go 5th with a win here. At home they have gone their last 3 games without defeat, and their last match at Bramall Lane finished 1-0 against West Ham.

Manchester City have surely blown the league now, after they drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace at home. It was a strange game in the fact that the champions were losing 1-0 for the majority of the game. With just 8 minutes left, man of the moment Sergio Aguero scored not one but two goals to snatch a famous victory. Except that it wasn’t, and Palace found a way to equalise. Just like Norwich and Wolves have found a way to beat City.

Perhaps Pep Guardiola needs the batteries charged up again as he saw his ‘champions’ fall 16 points behind Liverpool. City did win their last away game which ended in a 6-1 thrashing of Aston Villa, but they have found it very hard to find good consistency, which has really damaged their title bid this season.

Team News:

Sheffield United: The club have no new injuries coming into this game

Manchester City: Aymeric Laporte could be making his very long waited comeback but he may have to wait another week. Otherwise the club have no new injuries before this game

Sheffield Utd vs Man City Head to Head:

The last time the teams met here was in the FA Cup in 2008 when Sheffield United won 2-1.

Earlier this season in the reverse fixture Manchester City won 2-0.

Based on recent results there is a 75% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Sheffield Utd vs Man City Prediction:

Harsh words would have been spoken by Pep Guardiola who was furious that his side let a win slip in the nature they did. They acted too slow against Palace in all departments and Guardiola who now has very little to lose concerning the league is going to set up his team to full attack mode. Whilst we think that City will likely win the odds are only around 1.44 so to increase these a little at no extra risk, we will apply a -1 asian handicap. We will also back Aguero to get on the scoresheet again.

Sheffield Utd vs Man City Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Man City) at 1.64

Anytime goalscorer: Sergio Aguero at 1.80
