England Premier League
Saturday 28th September 2019
Kick off at 12.30pm BST
Venue: Bramall Lane
Match Preview:
Liverpool have the chance to make it a magic 7 wins out of 7 and go 8 points clear in the Premier League when they take on newly promoted Sheffield United in the lunch time kick off on Saturday.
Certainly Jurgen Klopp’s team will start as odds on favourites to win and are going for their 16th league win in a row. For the Reds it is their 2nd away game in a row following their 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend. Whilst Liverpool played brilliant football, Chelsea got back into the game and ended strongly and some felt they were unfortunate to end the game without a draw. It was perhaps the closest this season that Liverpool have looked like losing their 100% record but still another 3 points for a club who are looking unstoppable.
What has been fascinating about Liverpool has been Klopp not changing his tactics. He has stuck with a system of 4-3-3 no matter if the team have been playing at home or away. The fact that he kept with it even against Chelsea suggests he will do the same again against the Blades.
Sheffield United beat one Merseyside team in Everton last weekend with a glorious 2-0 victory at Goodison Park can they now beat the red half?
The Blades come into this game in 10th place with 8 points and they have won 2 games so far this season. They have lost 2 of their 3 home games so far with their last match here ending in a 1-0 loss to Southampton. The Everton win stopped a run of 3 games without victory but everyone at the club will be well aware of the task in hand on Saturday as they try and become the first team since January in the league to claim three points from Liverpool.
Team News:
Sheffield United: Billy Sharp is suspended from this game after being sent off v Southampton. Bryan Kean is set to return after one month out following a knock
Liverpool: Alisson looks certain to miss this game but should be back the following week. Naby Keita should finally be back in the squad after his ongoing muscle injury. Sadio Mane suffered a dead long and a minor knock against Chelsea but is expected to be fine for this match
Sheffield Utd vs Liverpool Head to Head:
The teams have not played one another since 2007 when Liverpool, at Anfield, won 4-0.
The last time the sides played at Sheffield United the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Sheffield United have not beaten Liverpool in the top flight since 1994.
Liverpool have not beaten Sheffield United away from home since 1990- the last time they were the champions.
Sheffield Utd vs Liverpool Prediction:
Liverpool are around 1.30 to win this match which is probably correct even if it is away. It is interesting to see that the club through the years have regularly struggled to win at United. But whilst this game won’t be a roll over for them we do expect United to give them a game and make life difficult, its is why one of our choices will be to see more goals as the game goes on.
There isn’t any recent history between the two teams to draw on but the usual suspects for Liverpool will be dangerous and we expect a closer game than some may think. United have a chance to at least score and both teams to do so should also be a pick. Otherwise Liverpool could face some problems here but have too much quality, a loss or draw would be a real surprise and we expect Liverpool to have 21 points come Saturday afternoon. Sometimes in games like this which can get bogged down and physical it is a player from the back that rescues the day and we think it is worth backing an unlikely scorer from the visitors from a set piece goal for example at good value odds.
