Sheffield Utd vs Leicester: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 6th December 2020
Kick off at 2:15pm GMT
Venue: Bramall Lane

Match Preview:

Sheffield United are the only team in the Premier League waiting on their first win of the season, and it has been 10 games now.

Chris Wilder’s side are the favourites to be relegated and have earned just 1 point from a possible 30 in a nightmare start for the Blades. Last weekend they were defeated by West Bromwich Albion who up until then were also yet to win a game, the match ended just 1-0 to the Baggies and Wilder’s side had an incredible 22 attempts on goal but it wasn’t to be.

Perhaps the only good news is that if you take out the Chelsea game where they lost 4-1 they haven’t been getting crushed week in and week out. There was the Liverpool defeat that ended only 2-1 and the Manchester City game was very close also finishing just 1-0 to Pep Guardiola’s side.

But the gap to safety is getting bigger and the Blades are now six points from that target.

Leicester are really a rather brilliant team, but maybe we can say they are flawed too. They have lost some games this season that you didn’t initially see coming. Defeats against West Ham and Aston Villa to name two. But on Monday evening it felt like a gut punch, and that is meant with all due respect to Fulham. Scott Parker’s side beat Leicester at the King Power Stadium 2-1. This being the same Fulham side who had lost 70% of their games this season and the same who side up until then had yet to win away from home.

The Foxes are thinking of Champions League qualification and let’s admit it another surprise title, however results like these just underline that they could come up short on both fronts. The defeat was also their 2nd in a row although no one could be too harsh on them losing at Liverpool in the previous week.

Brendan Rodgers side does have the 3rd best away record in the league with just 1 defeat on the road and before the Liverpool game they had won 4 in a row.

Team News:

Sheffield United: Ethan Ampadu has had a delayed return from a knock but is being lined up for this game. Enda Stevens could return from a knee injury but may not start. Danny Ings is an outside chance for this game and is rated 50/50 after recovering well from his knee surgery.

Leicester: Timothy Castagne is only 50/50 to return after his hamstring injury. Wes Morgan has a slight back injury but will be assessed. Caglar Soyuncu had a recurrence of his groin injury in midweek and will need to be assessed.

Sheffield Utd vs Leicester Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 2-1 to Leicester.

Leicester have won the last 5 meetings between the sides in a row.

Sheffield United have not beaten Leicester when at home since 2008.

Sheffield Utd vs Leicester Prediction:

Sheffield United are the underdogs but they might be able to smell some uncertainty from Leicester going into this game. If Fulham can beat them away from home then the pressure may be on United to get the win here. That could be their thinking.

Leicester on their day are of course the better side and this should be an away win. But it is 2 losses in a row and Leicester whilst a very good side just seem off the pace in a way, as if they are consistently good but not consistently brilliant.

This could be a close game but the Blades do not have a good record over the Foxes, and lets face it their form is still far worse than Leicester's, therefore we will back Leicester to get a close win.
