Match Preview:
The recent points loss that Nottingham Forest have received for breaking FFP rules has benefitted the bottom two clubs with their task of staying up having a slightly clearer path although it won't mean anything if Sheffield United and Burnley can’t win games. As it stands Sheffield United are bottom and because of their poor goal difference are 9 points from safety. It looks almost certain that Chris Wilder’s side will be relegated but at the same time they have been thrown a glimmer of hope.
In the Blades last game before the international break they looked to be heading for only their fourth win of the season as with a quarter of an hour left to play they were leading Bournemouth 2-0 but that game finished 2-2 and while every point is valuable this game would have felt like a loss. That very weekend Burnley in 19th place won and so not only are Wilder’s side bottom of the league but they are trailing 19th place by three points. At least the recent draw did stop a 3 game losing streak though but it is at home where the club needs to start picking up wins. With just 8 points won at home from 42 they have the equal joint worst home record alongside Burnley which includes no wins this year and fans on average are witnessing 3 goals shipped per game at home with just 12 goals scored, can anything change so soon at the weekend?
Fulham with 38 points are safe and in 12th place and they will be eyeing a strong finish to the season and a possible Europa Conference League finish. It is very tight around this section of the league though but the Cottagers have been in form lately with 3 wins from their last four games. Impressively Marco Silva’s side eased past Tottenham 3-0 in their last game although they were at home and the clubs last away game ended in defeat against Wolves. Generally on the road results have been poor and indeed Fulham would rank in 18th placed based on away games alone with just two wins and 8 defeats. But they are a side who can surprise just ask Manchester United who were beaten at home by Fulham only last month. With victory here Fulham has the chance to move up a couple of places depending on results but it would put them well in contention to fight for a late European place.
Team News:
Sheffield United: Cameron Archer and Anis Ben Slimane are being tipped to start with no problems after injury scares. George Baldock is only 50/50 to return from a calf injury. Chris Basham, John Egan and Rhian Brewster are all out long term
Fulham: Rodrigo Muniz will be assessed for a slight hamstring worry but is being tipped to be fine for this game

The last time the clubs played here in the Championship in 2022 it was an easy 4-0 win for Sheffield United.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Fulham won 3-1.

Sheffield United are coming up against a tough side but one that has struggled on the road this season but can spring surprises, although if Fulham were to win here it wouldn’t feel like one. We have said it in the past and say it again this is an opportunity for the Blades to get something from this game and they should be motivated with Forest having lost some points. Will they go down anyway win or lose here, they probably will but victory here is a stay of execution and gives them a chance. Now they must show up but also keep their concentration. We already know that we have a club that can get themselves in front, but how long can they hold it? We are tempted to back the home side but with the draw covered also. Lose here and we think it really is all over for Wilder’s side.
