England Premier League
Saturday 26th December 2020
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Bramall Lane
Match Preview:
After 14 games Sheffield United are still looking for their first victory of the season. The Blades have earned just 2 points from a possible 42 and are 10 points from safety and at this stage look certainties to go down.
They did at least avoid defeat in their last match which they drew 1-1 against Brighton, although they took the lead in that game and couldn’t hold on. One does wonder if United were to win a game if it would somehow kick start their season. They have been scoring goals at least and have 3 in their last two games after losing their previous match against Manchester United 3-2 and David McGoldrick scored twice against the Red Devils. At home the Blades have lost their last four games and have scored just 4 goals so far.
Everton started the season in brilliant form, then dipped but now have their form back and come into this match having won their last 3. Though what has been impressive is the opponents they have beaten in those games- Leicester, Chelsea and Arsenal and Everton are now in 4th place and just 5 points behind the leaders Liverpool.
It’s been almost a month since Everton lost a game and they have scored 4 goals in their last two matches and their last away win was against Leicester which ended 2-0. Everton have the 5th best away record in the league and have won 4 of their seven games so far.
Team News:
Sheffield United: John Lundstram is suspended for 3 games after his red card. Olivier McBurnie is being tipped to return for this match after his shoulder injury. Sander Berge will miss the next 3 months with his hamstring.
Everton: Allan will miss the Christmas period of games with his hamstring injury. Andre Gomes has a slight problem with his hamstring and will be assessed. James Rodriguez is being tipped to be fine to return. Lucas Digne and Fabian Delph have more long term injuries and won’t be expected to return until next month.
Sheffield Utd vs Everton Head to Head:
Last season Everton won this fixture 1-0.
The clubs have only met 5 times over the past 15 years and Everton have 3 victories, Sheffield United one and there has been one draw.
There is an 80% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Sheffield Utd vs Everton Prediction:
As any Everton fan will know this match represents a banana skin type of match where they have the form and then make heavy weather over the team in last place who haven’t won a game so far. On paper and on form this should be an easy victory for Everton, but they will be made to work hard for this one.
A victory would be huge for Everton and would keep them in line for a top 4 finish. Over the past few matches Everton have impressed in defence, which has obviously been a key figure for Carlo Ancelotti after the club went through a poor spell. If Everton can keep it tight once again they have the attacking players to give the Blades a nightmare of a game.
Sheffield United are not conceding many goals and this fixture traditionally doesn’t have many but United can make an impact and will need to take some risks at home, otherwise they could end the season with no wins at all, it is that bad. For Everton Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs to get on the score sheet again, he has seen Mohamed Salah fly past him, so we will back the striker to do so.
