England Premier League
Sunday 18th August 2019
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Bramall Lane
Match Preview:
Sheffield United will be amongst the favourites to go straight back down to the Championship this season, so every point will count for Chris Wilder’s team. On the opening day of the season the club earned a point away to Bournemouth and the hero of the day was 33 year old Billy Sharp who scored the equaliser with just two minutes remaining. The way the club celebrated suggested that they had just won the game, but the goal and the timing meant everything, and earning a point away from home is so valuable for a club like Sheffield United.
On Sunday they will play their first game at home in what is sure to be a packed out stadium, and a win could see the club break through into the top six depending on results.
Crystal Palace played out an uneventful 0-0 result against Everton at Selhurst Park last weekend and this game could tell us a lot about the club this season. True it is still extremely early in the season but there are thoughts that Palace could really struggle, if they were to lose to a newly promoted team in Sheffield United that could really nail that thought home.
Roy Hodgson will be massively relived that he was able to keep Wilfried Zaha because his assists and goals could well save the Eagles from the drop, and he will likely be used from the start this time after coming of the bench in their last game.
Team News:
Sheffield United: There are no new injuries for the club coming into this game
Crystal Palace: Mamadou Sakho could be back in the squad after a lack of match fitness though this hasn’t been confirmed. Jeffrey Schlupp has a muscle injury. James Tomkins is still injured with his groin from the back end of last season and is a long term casualty
