England Premier League
Saturday 8th May 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Bramall Lane
Match Preview:
It’s very likely now that Sheffield United will finish last in the Premier League following their relegation as they are 9 points behind West Bromwich Albion.
The Blades lost 4-0 at Tottenham last weekend in a result that seemed predictable before a ball was kicked but they might feel more content returning back to Bramall Lane. This is partly because the Blades won their last game here beating Brighton 1-0. In truth the players would be happy for the season to end right now and the club will be preparing for their parachute payment and life back in the Championship.
Recent home form for United has seen 2 wins from their last four games but the problem for the club has been a lack of goals especially at home with just 11 scored so far.
Crystal Palace will be safe this season and that should be confirmed this weekend. The club are 11 points clear of the bottom three with 12 on the board to play for. The problem for the team is that they know their safety is imminent and they seem to have switched off lately. The Eagles come into this encounter having lost their last 3 games and haven’t recorded a win since beating West Bromwich Albion almost 2 months ago. Last weekend Roy Hodgson’s side lost 2-0 to Manchester City.
With victory Palace cannot climb up a position at the weekend as they are 4 points behind Wolves. Recent away form has been poor with just 4 points won from their last 15. Palace have lost 50% of their games on the road.
Team News:
Sheffield United: Ethan Ampadu is being pencilled in to return for this game after his groin injury. Jack Robinson could be assessed as has fitness issues. Billy Sharp (thigh) and Olivier McBurnie (foot) are out for the season.
Crystal Palace: Nathan Ferguson will be assessed after a lack of match fitness. James McArthur is still a doubt with a calf injury. James Tomkins and Connor Wickham will be assessed but are doubts with fitness issues.
Sheffield Utd vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:
Last season Sheffield United won this fixture with a 1-0 victory.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Crystal Palace won 2-0.
There is an 80% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Crystal Palace have not beaten Sheffield United away from home since 2007.
Sheffield Utd vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
With due respect to both sides we don’t expect to see the most riveting game of the weekend in the Premier League. Both clubs are playing for nothing and Palace who have the better squad have been in dire form.
That isn’t to say we should rule out the Blades from getting a win and it might be worth pursuing this market but there are other markets connected with goals which we should look into if we want to find some value from this game. The half time correct score could be one of the main choices here given that we don’t expect either side to be playing attacking attractive football especially in the opening exchanges.
Wilfried Zaha has been below par in the second half of this campaign and he may well fancy his chances to get a goal against the bottom club and he should be taken on. Just mind that Palace have a poor record at this ground.
Sheffield Utd vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips:
Half Time Correct Score: 0-0 or 1-0 to Sheffield United at 2.50 and 5.00
Anytime goalscorer: Wilfried Zaha at 2.75
