Match Preview:
If anything this season you have to it give Sheffield United for trying when they look like they are in an impossible place. Still bottom of the table and 11 points from safety they have picked up in form and let’s face it still have time to save themselves. But it would feel like a miracle if they did.
In midweek though they got a huge result when they beat 19th placed West Bromwich Albion 2-1 and it was a game where they were trailing 1-0. Had they lost the match they would have only 8 points now and be 7 points from 19th alone but now just 1 point separates the clubs as the Blades try to recover from what has been a nightmare of a season.
There will be one eye on both Burnley and Newcastle if you’re a fan of Sheffield United as they are the clubs keeping the team honest on 22 points, and if they find form the task of survival would be impossible. Recent form has been encouraging for Chris Wilder’s team who have won 3 games from their last 5 and earning 9 points from their last 15 is a huge improvement. Along the way United have been able to beat West Brom, Newcastle and Manchester United. The Manchester United victory will go down as one of the biggest surprises of the season.
Have the good times returned to Chelsea? Under Thomas Tuchel the team looks more settled, though we can’t tell how long that will last for as traditionally teams do well with a new manager in place. However Chelsea have not conceded in the 3 games he has been in charge and have only had 2 shots on target against them in those first few games. Under Tuchel Chelsea are unbeaten and many will expect them to get through this weekend with that record intact.
Chelsea have climbed to sixth place and are only 4 points from a top 4 finish and they will be a threat now to finish in a Champions League place. Away form doesn’t matter as we are dealing with a different set up and mindset now with Tuchel in charge although the club have lost 4 on the road from 11 games played this season.
Team News:
Sheffield United: George Baldock has a muscle injury and is only 50/50 to make this game. Enda Stevens could return for this game and will face a late test. Jack Robinson looks a doubt following his knock from a few weeks ago.
Chelsea: Kai Havertz will face a test after missing the game v Tottenham due to a knock. Thiago Silva is a major doubt with a muscle issue. Kurt Zouma will face a test on his knock but is being tipped to be fine.
Sheffield Utd vs Chelsea Head to Head:
Last season produced a shock as Sheffield United won this fixture 3-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Chelsea won 4-1.
There is an 80% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Sheffield Utd vs Chelsea Prediction:
Chelsea’s price has dropped to 1.44 to win this game and whilst they should win many punters could be sweating. The reason is that already under Tuchel we have seen a team who dominate and create many chances but are finding it hard to score goals when we see how many chances they have created. The other problem is that no matter how blunted the Blades have been this season, manager Wilder has been able to set up the defence with stubborn authority, and they rarely lose games by big scores.
Of course Chelsea has the team and quality to win this game 4-0 but it may play out where the Blues are made to work very hard for their win. So whilst we think an away victory is on the cards, we have to remember that the home side are fighting too and we have seen that over the past few weeks.
We can however increase the odds of a Chelsea win with no extra risk by using the asian handicap option, and that is what we will do.
Sheffield Utd vs Chelsea Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (-1 Chelsea) at 1.82
Anytime goalscorer: Tammy Abraham at 2.10
