Sheffield Utd vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 25th November 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Bramall Lane

Match Preview:

Is there some hope for Sheffield United after an horrendous start to the season? The Blades have gone the last two games unbeaten with their first win of the season against Wolves and they followed that up with a 1-1 draw away to Brighton, two impressive results. Can they keep up this form or did the break come at the wrong time for them? They have been pushed up to 18th place with five points and if they win and Luton don't the Blades would finally escape the bottom three. Home form has seen the club lose 70% of their games but take away the 8-0 defeat against Newcastle and their results here have been close and they will look at this game and think there are points in it.

Bournemouth are in 16th place with 9 points and only four clear of the bottom three. It’s been a difficult beginning to the campaign but there has been some uplift of late winning two of their last three games. Those victories came against Burnley and more impressively Newcastle in which they won 2-0. The bad news for the Cherries is that they currently have the worst away record in the league with just 1 point won from their opening 5 games. That came about after a 2-2 draw with Brentford. The clubs last away game finished in a 6-1 loss to Manchester City and in their last three away games they have conceded 12 goals.

Team News:

Sheffield United: Chris Basham, Rhian Brewster, Tom Davies, Joe Egan and all remain sidelined long term. Rhys Norrington-Davies has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and this game looks like it will come too soon for him.

Bournemouth: Emiliano Marcondes isn’t expected back after recovering from a foot injury and is very likely to miss out. Ryan Fredericks, Tyler Adams and Maximillian Aarons remain out for lengthy spells. An update on Alex Scott suggest that he will not return for two months due to his knee injury.

Sheffield Utd vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

The last time the clubs played was at the beginning of 2022 and it was in the Championship and in this fixture the game finished as a 0-0 draw. That was the first 0-0 scoreline in 40 years.

It’s been 36 years since Bournemouth beat Sheffield United away from home.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Sheffield Utd vs Bournemouth Prediction:

As much as Sheffield United have been poor and most weeks it is difficult to say to back them we think this could be the perfect moment. It does depend of course if the break has affected them but just beforehand the club were showing fight and earning four points from their last six is huge for the club. They are at home and it is at home where they will survive. The fans will certainly give their side a good boost after witnessing Wolves being beaten here.

What is also striking is Bournemouth’s poor record at this ground and coupled with the fact they have the poorest away record in the league this could be a chance of a home victory. The Blades are an absolutely superb price in a ‘two horse’ race, so we will be backing the home side with the added motivation for them to leapfrog out of the bottom three at the same time.
