Sheffield Utd vs Bournemouth: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 9th February 2020
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Bramall Lane

Match Preview:

Not many pundits or fans would have predicted Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United to be in the top 6 in February but that’s exactly where they are. Form has been mixed but they did win their last game 1-0 at Crystal Palace, which was quite an impressive result. Only Tottenham’s win against Manchester City denied Sheffield United from being in 5th place coming into this game.

With Tottenham not playing until next week this match gives Chris Wilder’s side the opportunity to go 5th and be just 2 points behind Chelsea in 4th. Home form isn’t the best for the Blades though and even though they have won 5 games at Bramall Lane they have also lost 5. Their last match at home ended in defeat to Manchester City.

Bournemouth are down in 16th place and were free falling but they should come to this game with some confidence given that they have won back to back games. They beat Brighton and Aston Villa, clubs seen as a direct rival for survival and that should give them a boost. Still, despite this they are just 2 points from the drop, and are far from safe.

Eddie Howe’s side have really struggled away from home and they have lost 8 of their 12 games and that includes losing their last three consecutive. Their last away win actually came at Chelsea but that was almost 2 months ago.

Team News:

Sheffield United: David McGoldrick is back in training following his foot injury and he will be assessed for this game.

Bournemouth: Jefferson Lerma is suspended for this game after picking up two bookable offences. Joshua King will be assessed after his lay off with a hamstring injury.

Sheffield Utd vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

The teams have not played at Sheffield United since 2012 when the Blades won the game 5-3.

Earlier this season in the reverse fixture the game ended 1-1.

Bournemouth have not beaten Sheffield United in any competition since 1987.

Sheffield Utd vs Bournemouth Prediction:

Sheffield United have been excellent this season but they could improve further and that would be stringing some wins together instead of winning one, drawing, then losing and rinse and repeat. This match looks like the perfect opportunity for them to do that and win two games in a row. Bournemouth have some wins under their belt but United should prove much stronger, especially with home advantage. We should be reminded that Bournemouth have lost 70% of their games away from home this season and have no wins over their opponents for 33 years. United need to step up here and could go 4 points in front of Manchester United, a lot really is at stake for the club.
