Sheffield Utd vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 3rd March 2021
Kick off at 6pm GMT
Venue: Bramall Lane

Match Preview:

Sheffield United lost their 4th consecutive game as they were defeated by Liverpool 2-0. It was quite a slog for the out of form Liverpool and if anything. For the most part this season the Blades have been stubborn in defence even if they are bottom of the league and have conceded 43 goals. One should remember that Newcastle and Leeds have conceded more.

Chris Wilder’s side are 15 points from safety and even though the maths is in their hands it seems to be universally agreed upon that they will be one of the teams going down this season. In a way then being so far from safety means that the club have no pressures and maybe that is why it has been hard for other teams to come here and break down this team, or why they are not losing 5-0 every week.

Aston Villa have fallen to 9th place after just one win in their last four. The good news is that the victory came in their last game as they beat Leeds away by 1-0. Not only were the club impressive to win but they also keept a clean sheet against an attack minded team. Villa also has the advantage of 2 games in hand over most of the teams above them and could, in theory, be in 4th place with all the same games played.

Villa have done well away from home with seven wins from 13 games and are unbeaten in their last three trips. They have performed well in defence too with just 10 goals conceded and that is the 2nd best record behind Manchester City.

Team News:

Sheffield United: Chris Basham and Sander Berge are out for another few weeks at least. Jayden Bogle is out with a knock, John Egan has a toe injury. Jack Robinson has a knock and Jack O’Connell is out long term.

Aston Villa: Matthew Cash is out for at least another week with his hamstring, Jack Grealish will be assessed after his leg injury. Kortney Hause is still out with his foot but is expected back in 10 days and Wesley will be assessed after recovering from injury but has a lack of match fitness.

Sheffield Utd vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

Last season Sheffield United won this fixture 2-0.

The last 3 league meetings have all ended in under 2.5 goals.

Aston Villa won the reverse fixture 1-0 earlier in the season.

Sheffield Utd vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Sheffield United have nothing to lose and this is the danger when even clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool have had to dig really deep in coming here to get a result. As for Villa if they have dreams of European football this feels like a game where they need at least a point to keep up that charge.

We expect to see an end to end game and if Villa get caught in the Blades way of playing they could be in trouble. But Villa have a good away record and a better team and they should be able to get something out of the game, and we also think Ollie Watkins could be due a goal.

Sheffield Utd vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:
