Scott Parker First EPL Manager Sacked This Season

Scott Parker has become the first manager in the Premier League to be sacked but instead of leaving some of the media gob smacked that he's gone after four games, some have said it was the right thing to do. Normally when managers get sacked it is because of their league performance and in Bournemouth's case it has been a terrible start. They did beat Aston Villa but then went on to lose three games in a row under Parker- lest we forget it was against Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool- they were never going to win those games having Parker in the dug out or not. Of course the way those defeats came about is more worrying, 3-0 against Arsenal, 4-0 against Manchester City and 9-0 against Liverpool. Sixteen goals shipped none scored, but again that is still a nightmare fixture list for a newly promoted side who haven't spent much money in the summer. And this is where we come to the crux of the argument and Parker's sacking.

Parker said that he was disappointed by the chairman, Maxim Denim- not naming in the interview and that the club need to spend more money in the transfer window. Denim hasn't liked what Parker said and Parker was therefore likely sacked as a result. Most believe it has nothing to do with results but a 9-0 loss can make people do things in the heat of the moment. But the media has suggested that Parker cannot talk in the way he did. Why not? Haven't other managers been frustrated with a lack of signings in the past before? How hard was it for Parker to see another newly promoted side in Nottingham Forest spend £150m whilst his owner currently has spent under £30m? One could argue Forest have gone all out and gambled, but you need to be spending £70m plus now in the summer to have any chance of bringing in quality and trying to stay up. Perhaps Parker already knew there were no funds available but maybe he was shell shocked at the 9-0 defeat (this interview did take place immediately after the game) and all of this is borne out of frustration. Should a manager that got you back into the Premier League and has a very good 50% win rate for a club like Bournemouth have not had a second chance from Denim? Perhaps Parker has dodged a bullet in what looks like a very long season for Bournemouth. Perhaps Parker had stepped out of line because the chairman had already told him the clubs position but even so let's go back to the heat of the moment and let's remember that Parker did stay calm. His sacking does not feel justified and that is the bottom line. One has to worry about Denim now if you are a fan of Bournemouth we have seen erratic owners at Watford- look how that turned out and a decade ago at Blackburn, it never turns out well…. It is no surprise to see that the club are the favourites to be relegated at 1.30, although Forest are the second favourites their price difference is day and night at 2.00. One senses a mistake has been made and now that one manager has gone early doors maybe others will follow suit soon?

Next Premier League manager to be sacked: Steven Gerrard 2.25, Brendan Rodgers 4.00, Frank Lampard 7.00

Harry Kane is scoring goals this season for Tottenham and already has 4 from five games. Inevitably he will be compared to Alan Shearer who holds the record for the number of Premier League goals of all time which currently stands at 260, Kane has 187 and needs just 74 goals to claim the record. Kane is currently in joint 3rd position with Andy Cole and is only 22 goals away from surpassing Wayne Rooney.

First it is interesting that well informed pundits believe that Kane will break the record but it will be a close run thing- it won't. Kane is still 29 and has at least 4-5 seasons at the very top of his game. Time and again it gets ignored how sports athletics through training and sports science can now last longer. It is true that 32-33 used to be your calling card as a forward that simply isn't true now. If you can avoid terrible injury you can go onto your late 30s. Look at Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has turned 40 and still plays for Milan in Italy. Starting from last season it took Kane 4 seasons to get the required 74 goals needed, and ideally he will beat Shearer's record in the summer of 2026 when he will be 33. With time to spare it is possible he will smash the 300 barrier too. But let's not forget that some believe football to have only been invented 30 years ago and this is a Premier League record only. Kane will have to go some to actually beat the best top flight record still held after 50 years by the great Jimmy Greaves which stands at 357. We shouldn't forget like a lot in the media have, that is the real record and one of the reasons we shouldn't forget is because one day the Premier League could well be re branded and change name, do we then forget about Kane's records?

Of course even the heir to the throne Kane has to be slightly worried because there is a new kid in town by the name of Erling Haaland. He came to the Premier League with hype but boy it is being justified with 9 goals already in just five games. Haaland could be smashing quite a few records one of which should be Mohamed Salah's season record of 32 goals spread over a 38 game season. It depends of course how long Haaland will spend in the Premier League with Manchester City if he gets near an all time record, but it is still an exciting prospect.

Premier League top goalscorer: Erling Haaland 1.25, Harry Kane 11.00, Gabriel Jesus 11.00, Mohamed Salah 13.00, Aleksandar Mitrovic 25.00
