Match Preview:
This is set to be quite a six pointer and while Southampton only have a faint chance of surviving this season, they would be more or less relegated with defeat here. It is 18th v 20th and between them they have lost 8 of their last 10 games.
Nottingham Forest are in the bottom three but only on goal difference so three points here would be a huge boost to a club who have been suffering lately and for most of the season. They did however beat Brighton 3-1 in their last home game and it will be at the City Ground which will decide if Forest stay up or go straight back down. Home form has still seen two losses from their last five and only 5 points won from their last 15 but their majority result here is tied as either a win or a draw and with five losses at home this is a club who have really suffered on the road so any home game will be welcomed.
Southampton are rock bottom on 24 points and five behind 19th placed Everton. While the Saints have obviously been the poorest side in the league sometimes football can be fine margins and they have put in some brave performances lately but haven’t been able to win games. Witness their 3-3 draw away to Arsenal and they also took the lead away to Newcastle only to lose that one 3-1. The Saints have won just six points from their last 30 and scored just 9 goals in that time. Away from home they do not have the worst record and have collected 15 points from 51. The club have upped their game on the road at times and have also recently drawn 0-0 at Manchester United.
Team News:
Nottingham Forest: Jack Colback remains a doubt as he recovers from a head injury and this game may come too soon for him. Wily Boly is out with his hamstring and not due back for another two weeks. Danilo is only 50/50 to return from a hamstring injury. Gustavo Scarpa has made progress with his calf but remains at only 50/50 to be ready for this game. Brennan Johnson has a knock and will face an assessment, Dean Henderson remains sidelined with his thigh. Neco Williams and Chris Wood have been ruled out for the season.
Southampton: Mohammed Salisu is likely out for the season with a hip injury, Romain Perraud is out for the season with an ankle injury. Valentino Livramento hasn’t quite been ruled out for the season but remains sidelined because of fitness issues and certainly won’t play in this game.

You have to give Southampton credit for how they have been able to play away from home against the top sides and really push them. It always seems harder during evenings and ones that are not at the weekend. But the facts are much like Everton the club struggle to gain points away from home and their form is much poorer than some of their play would suggest.
Nottingham Forest were always going to be judged on their home results this season and that was going to be of importance to them. They have done fairly well here considering everything and their first return to Premier League football in over 20 years but it still may not be enough. They need to believe though and win here and suddenly the passage to surviving will open up for them. We expect a close game with Forest just having enough in the tank.
