England Premier League
Sunday 16th April 2023
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: City Ground
Match Preview:
Nottingham Forest come into this game in the relegation zone and will be expected to stay there by the end of the weekend but they have already surprised one Manchester side at the City Ground this season by claiming a 1-1 draw and will try to get something from United as well.
Form for Forest has been poor with just 1 point from their last 15 and they have also lost their last two games which have come against Leeds and Aston Villa. The good news is that coming into this weekend Forest were only in the bottom three because of goal difference and two wins would make a huge difference to their season however Forest have only won six games this season. At home 21 of their 27 points have come this way and they only have one loss here from their last five played although 3 have ended in draws. Forest’s last home game finished in a 1-1 draw against Wolves.
Manchester United come here with disappointment in their minds as they drew 2-2 with Sevilla in the 1st leg of their Europa League quarter final game on Thursday. United were two goals up and they will have one eye on that 2nd leg match next week. United have won their last two games in a row with victories over Brentford and Everton and they are in 4th place with 56 points but would go 3rd with a win here and reestablish their strong hold on a top four finish.
Team News:
Nottingham Forest: Serge Aurier is set to miss out again with a knock but could return next week. Gustavo Scarpa is a major doubt with his knee, Dean Henderson looks like he will miss out again with a thigh injury but could return next week. Cheikhou Kouyate and Moussa Niakhate are both struggling to recover from hamstring injuries and are doubts also for this game. Ryan Yates misses out again due to his shoulder injury and Chris Wood has been ruled out for the season with a thigh injury.
Manchester United: Marcus Rashford is out with a groin injury and could miss the next 10 days. Scott McTominay will be assessed for a knock, Lisandro Martinez has been ruled out for the season with a foot injury. Tom Heaton is out for at least a week with an ankle injury. Alejandro Garnacho is out with an ankle injury for at least another four weeks.
Nottm Forest vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Even though there had been a 23 year gap since the teams played- in this season alone they have met 3 times. The league match finished 3-0 to Manchester United and the two EFL Cup games finished in a 5-0 aggregate score for United.
Manchester United have won the last 8 meetings between the sides.
Nottingham Forest have not won at home against Manchester United since 1992.
There is an 80% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Nottm Forest vs Man Utd Prediction:
Erik ten Hag has done a solid job at Manchester United so far and it has been a difficult one too but many observers and fans alike would say that the Dutchman is making the club go in the right direction. However there is a problem and that is away form. United have six wins but also six losses and the worry is their recent away form which has seen 3 defeats from their last four. Those losses have come against Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle so it could well be argued that those were all tricky games and that playing Forest shouldn’t be but the key injuries are mounting up for Ten Hag’s side also.
Forest will need to be patient and take their chances and we think they will get some that is why the both teams to score market looks like a viable one. However United have too many attacking options and we expect them to take advantage of Newcastle’s loss at the weekend and correct their away form at the same time with a win.
