England Premier League
Saturday 3rd September 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: City Ground
Match Preview:
With respect these two sides are amongst the favourites to be relegated this season and so this game represents a huge possible 3 points on the board.
Between them they have conceded 27 goals already and lost 6 of 10 games played and sit in 15th and 16th place respectively. Let’s firstly talk about Nottingham Forest who have signed almost two teams worth of new players and spent over £150m as they try to make sure of Premier League status for next season, it is quite a gamble for sure. The scale of what the famous club are up against was on show for everyone to see as they were thumped 6-0 by the champions Manchester City in midweek. A defeat away to City isn’t a terrible thing, but manager Steve Cooper would not have liked to see six goals go past his team. Forest’s only win so far has come at home to West Ham.
Bournemouth have been in the news lately for sacking Scott Parker after four games. The club had just got dismantled 9-0 by Liverpool but it wasn’t the results and scoreline that led to Parker’s dismissal but because he questioned the owners. Parker is no more and in Bournemouth’s next game at home to Wolves it finished 0-0, a remarkable turnaround in defence it has to be said. This is a level pegging game and both clubs know each other so we don’t expect many goals in this one as the away team will look to try and keep a second clean sheet in a row and try and win their first game since the opening weekend of the season.
Team News:
Nottingham Forest: Orel Mangala is out and not back for another 10 days with his hamstring. Moussa Niakhate is out long term with a muscle issue. Omar Richards is out with a leg injury and not due back for a month.
Bournemouth: David Brooks is out with a lack of match fitness, Ben Pearson is out with a knee injury. Joe Rothwell is out for at least another two weeks with a thigh injury.
Nottm Forest vs Bournemouth Head to Head:
Bournemouth have won the last two meetings and Forest have not won 5 games going back to 2015.
3 from the last four games have seen under 2.5 goals.
The teams played last season in the Championship and this fixture finished 2-1 to Bournemouth.
Nottm Forest vs Bournemouth Prediction:
The City Ground was supposed to be the place where Nottingham Forest would rekindle past glories and at least make it very difficult for teams to come too and to be fair that could still be the case. They did lose here in their last game but that was against Tottenham and would have been expected. The worry for the manager will be how do his players react after getting beat 6-0? He needs to work with them, it was Manchester City and they shouldn’t feel too down for long.
In a sense we have two clubs low on confidence who have both suffered battering’s already but this shouldn’t be an issue here, they are very much equal. This game could go either way, but really we have to ask if both sides would be happy to take a point and move on so early in the season, and we could see this game peter out the longer it goes on. Both sides can be entertaining (any Premier League side can), but at the same time both are still lacking quality and we are tempted to back the draw here and a low score.
