England Premier League
Monday 10th October 2022
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: City Ground
Match Preview:
Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is on thin ice coming into this match with his club now bottom of the Premier League. It’s five straight defeats in a row for the club and they have managed just 4 points from their opening 8 games. This season was never going to be easy for the club returning to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years but there has been added pressure with the money spent in the summer- well over £100m. The gamble by the clubs owners is currently not paying off.
Forest’s last game finished in a 4-0 loss to then bottom club Leicester and they have shipped 16 goals in their last four games. These are worrying times for the club. At home the club have been able to earn 3 of their total 4 points here but it’s still 3 defeats in a row.
Aston Villa’s form has improved after a slow start that could have threatened Steven Gerrard’s job but the club have now gone their last 3 games without defeat. There have been two draws against Leeds and more significantly Manchester City and in between they have beaten Southampton. This form has led the club to climb up to 14th place with 8 points. While form has got better Gerrard’s side have still been unconvincing on the road and are yet to win and only have 1 point from a possible 12.
Team News:
Nottingham Forest: Jack Colback has a back injury and this game is expected to come too soon for him but he could return next week. It is the same problem for Moussa Niahate with his muscle injury. Omar Richards is out with a leg injury, Romeo Lavia is missing with his muscle injury and Valentino Livramento is out long term with his knee.
Aston Villa: Leon Bailey is 50/50 to make the game after his muscle injury and will face a late assessment. Calum Chambers is being tipped to be fine for this game after a muscle injury, Lucas Digne is still 2-3 weeks away because of his heel injury. Boubacar Kamara is out long term with his knee and Diego Carlos is also out for an extended period due to his Achilles.

Nottm Forest vs Aston Villa Prediction:
You have to worry for Forest who need a win but it is one of those situations where you can’t see where the next one is coming from. To lose 4-0 to Leicester was a real shocker given how poor the Foxes have been this season and Villa on their day are a solid and hard working side. Forest will need to make minimal mistakes and give everything in this game to get something and we can’t see them at this point in time doing so.
Villa need to find some consistency but their form is better now, they also have a decent recent record over Forest and you look at their forward line and think they can make the hosts suffer here. So this is most likely an away win and a few goals for Gerrard’s side. Forest need to start the game as if they are in a cup final but it’s hard to trust them to do that now.
