England Premier League
Saturday 20th May 2023
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: City Ground
Match Preview:
This will be an incredibly interesting game because if Arsenal lose then Manchester City become champions without kicking a ball as they do not play until Sunday. However even if Arsenal were to draw this game then while City can’t be crowned as champions, they would have to lose their last 3 games in a row and Arsenal would have to put 10 goals past their last opponent of the season, in short to keep their faint title hopes alive Arsenal must win this game.
Let’s look at Nottingham Forest because this is a huge game for them as they battle relegation and if they were to win they would be 99.9% safe this season, Leeds and Everton would have to win their last two games each, and that doesn’t look like happening. Forest have found good form with just one loss in their last four and their last game finished in a battling 2-2 draw away to Chelsea. Goals have been in this side as their last home game was won 4-3 against Southampton and you get the sense that Forest are enjoying themselves even in such a chaotic fashion.
Arsenal’s title dreams look over and they were shot down by Brighton last weekend as the Seagulls came to the Emirates and became just the second side this season to win there in an emphatic 3-0 victory. Arsenal are in 2nd place with 81 points but are not only four points shy of the champions Manchester City they have also played a game more. Mikel Arteta will be thinking what his side could have done better because yes they have wobbled in the last few months but who can compete with a side who can rack off 11 wins in a row? The Gunners were highly impressive in their away game as they beat Newcastle 2-0 but that was only their first win on the road in the last four games.
Team News:
Nottingham Forest: Emmanuel Dennis looks set to miss out with a knock, Jack Colback is unlikely to come back as he recovers from his head injury. Gustavo Scarpa has fitness issues but could be assessed. Dean Henderson, Omar Richards, Scott McKenna, Neco Williams and Chris Wood are all out for the season.
Arsenal: Oleksandr Zinchenko has a calf injury and remains a major doubt to be back for this game. William Saliba is sidelined with his back injury, Gabriel Martinelli has a knock but will be assessed and could play and Mohamed Elneny is out with his knee and most probably will now miss the rest of the season.
Nottm Forest vs Arsenal Head to Head:
The clubs have only played here 3 times in the last 20 years because Forest have not been in the Premier League. All of course were cup games and Forest won 2 of them.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Arsenal won 5-0.
There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Nottm Forest vs Arsenal Prediction:
On paper Arsenal are the favourites of course but there seemed to be some sort of implosion against Brighton at home and certainly there will be question marks. Arteta needs to round his troops up and motivate them, they have worked so hard to have a chance of the title and he will be determined it doesn’t end on Saturday. Forest have looked sharp despite a growing number of injuries and that’s because of the large squad they have, it was always going to be a gamble but it may just come off.
This will also be Forest's final game at the City Ground this season and the fans could make this one quite a terrific atmosphere. Arsenal look tired, of course they have the quality to stick several goals past Forest but perhaps they are mentally drained from their title battle. We do see value in backing Arsenal though, we know the level they can perform at and feel they will give it one last shot to get 3 points and hope Man City can slip up.
