England Premier League
Saturday 14th August 2021
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Carrow Road
Match Preview:
And so to a repeat fixture of a few seasons ago when these two teams played each other on the opening day of the season, a season in which Liverpool would go on to win the league - their first in 30 years. Norwich played some good football but were out done by some naivety at the back.
For Liverpool this season needs to somehow cancel out the last. It wasn’t a total disaster but the two month period that saw the team perform their worst top flight football in their history was the stuff of nightmares for every Reds fans. They did bounce back though to finish in 3rd place which was important for the club to be involved in the Champions League once more.
Virgil van Dijk is back and that is great news for Liverpool who lost their star defender for the majority of last season and in some ways the Dutchman will feel like a new signing. Manager Jurgen Klopp has also purchased Ibrahima Konate for £36m from RB Leipzig.
Norwich have brought in ten new faces mostly in defence but their best ‘signing’ is the loan of Billy Gilmour from Chelsea who looks to have a bright future ahead of him and the Canaries will be absolutely delighted to have the Scotsman.
In pre-season Norwich remained undefeated until their final game which they lost 3-0 away to Newcastle.
Team News:
Norwich: Sam Byram is out with a hamstring injury, Todd Cantwell has a knock but will be assessed.
Liverpool: Curtis Jones is out with a head injury but he should be back this month. Andrew Robertson has an ankle injury which could keep him out for at least 3 weeks.
Norwich vs Liverpool Head to Head:
Liverpool beat Norwich 1-0 the last time they met here.
Liverpool have scored 10 goals past Norwich in their last 3 meetings.
Norwich haven’t beaten Liverpool in any competition since 1994.
Norwich vs Liverpool Prediction:
Norwich will give their all and try to compete but it seems unlikely they will get anything from this game. Liverpool were so dominant when they won the league but the season after has maybe left a few question marks. They may not enjoy plenty of goals against the Canaries for this game but we can see them getting a professional win. They are odds on so it might be worth looking into different markets for this game.
Liverpool will come out of the blocks fast and we expect them to have the lead going into half time, and we also see Salah getting on the scoresheet.
Norwich vs Liverpool Betting Tips:
Half time result (Liverpool) at 1.80
Anytime goalscorer: Mohamed Salah at 1.57
