England Premier League
Saturday 28th August 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Carrow Road
Match Preview:
Norwich will be one of the favourites to go back down but it’s been an unfortunate start for the club who have had to face both Liverpool and Manchester City the last two champions in succession.
Norwich opened with a 3-0 defeat at home to the Reds then shipped 5 goals at City and are yet to score. However they shouldn’t feel too down and need to draw on what they made possible in the Championship even though the Premier League is another level. Norwich at their best can compete and survive in this league and this match may tell us much more about the real club and what fighting spirit they have.
Daniel Farke would have been delighted at his clubs response in midweek in the EFL Cup when they demolished Bournemouth 6-0 here and the fact the team get to stay at Carrow Road for this fixture will mean a lot to them.
Leicester won their opening game of the season narrowly beating Wolves 1-0 thanks to that man Jamie Vardy who just keeps scoring goals. However the Foxes were cornered against West Ham last week losing 4-1 and that score line really seemed to expose them. It didn’t help of course that Ayoze Perez was sent off after his terrible challenge on Pablo Fornals but with 10 men Leicester actually clawed that game back to 2-1. But the Hammers looked the better team with 11 v 11 anyway. The problem for Brendan Rodgers is does he have a team that will struggle on the road this season? Obviously it is too early to tell but many may raise that suspicion if they fail to get anything at newly-promoted Norwich.
Team News:
Norwich: Przem Placheta has after effect of Covid-19 and will not play until mid September at the earliest.
Leicester: Ayoze Perez is suspended for 3 games after his red card last week v West Ham. Jonny Evans isn’t back for another two weeks due to his foot injury. Justin James is out for a possible 2 months with a knee injury and Wesley Fofana is out long term with a broken leg suffered in pre-season.
Norwich vs Leicester Head to Head:
The last time the clubs played each other here was in 2020 and Norwich won 1-0
The last 3 games have seen under 2.5 goals.
From the last five meetings Leicester have only lost one.
Norwich vs Leicester Prediction:
Norwich are the outsiders for this game but being at home and having to try and pick something up here they might be worth going for. Leicester just seemed very uneasy away to home even though the Hammers are a stronger team than Norwich, but Norwich will try to make being at home the advantage it can be.
Leicester lost here last time also but in general they have a good record over the Canaries but the value just isn't there for Leicester.
It’s fine to lose to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City and concede 8 goals, but even though Leicester are a top 5 side Norwich will believe they could be getting something against the Foxes at home, this makes us a little uneasy and we feel goals may be the order of the day for this game.
