Norwich vs Leeds: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 31st October 2021
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Carrow Road

Match Preview:

Just when you think it can’t get any worse for Norwich it does but at the same time what did anyone expect would happen when the team in bottom place were pitted against the current European champions away from home. Norwich were thrashed 7-0 last weekend against Chelsea and whilst manager Daniel Farke could have expected to lose the game, to concede seven goals will have hurt his already under confident players.

The Canaries have 2 points and have scored just 2 goals so far. They are shipping an average of 2 goals per game. However despite the clubs plight Farke’s side are only 5 points from safety, it seems reachable for now.

Leeds are the team keeping that gap to 5 points as they come into this encounter in 17th place. There is a 3 point gap to the bottom three and if Leeds were to finish in this position on the final day of the season there would be celebrations at Elland Road. However no one can deny that so far this has been a disappointing and underwhelming season for Marcelo Bielsa’s side compared to last season.

Leeds last game ended in a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves and there has been no consistency from the club so far with only one victory which came against Watford at home. On the road Leeds have the fifth to worse record with 2 points earned from a possible 12.

Team News:

Norwich: Ben Gibson misses this game because of his sending off against Chelsea last weekend. Todd Cantwell is still struggling with a lack of match fitness so remains a doubt. Christoph Zimmermann is due back in two weeks time due to his on going ankle injury.

Leeds: Luke Ayling is still out with his knee. Patrick Bamford has an on going ankle issue and won’t play. Junior Firpo should return from his muscle injury. Raphinha is being tipped to return from his knock, Jamie Shackelton should also return from his knock. Robin Koch has had an operation on his knee and he is being tipped for a return in 4 weeks time.

Norwich vs Leeds Prediction:

There is a lot of value to be had in this game because of the clubs poor performances. One has to wonder if this match could be a good opportunity for Norwich to bounce back? On the whole they have some good results against Leeds in the past and especially at Carrow Road. However this current Norwich side have left a lot to be desired.

The problem for Leeds is that when their key players were fit they were struggling for results and they have some out for this game, and they are dearly missing Patrick Bamford’s services.

It isn’t losing 7-0 to Chelsea that will determine Norwich’s Premier League status it is playing these types of games against the team in 17th place. We won’t be backing Norwich on too many occasions this season, but surely the players at home will get up and be motivated for this game. Leeds are a good side but currently they could be there for the taking. The key will be how the home side start the game.
