Norwich vs Chelsea: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 10th March 2022
Kick off at 7:30pm GMT
Venue: Carrow Road

Match Preview:

This isn’t the kind of fixture Norwich need right now but at least they are at home and the Canaries have shown examples earlier in the season of raising their game against the better quality sides, but they will be in for a tough 90 minutes.

Norwich are bottom of the league with 17 points and are 5 points from safety although that is effectively six points because of goal difference. Here we have a club who have lost 18 times this season and everyone connected to football would put Dean Smith’s side as the absolute favourites to be relegated this season. When Smith first came into the job after being sacked at Aston Villa Norwich’s results did improve but the club have lost their last four games and the writing really looks on the wall for them now. Their last result ended in a 3-1 defeat against Brentford at home and that should tell you all you need to know given how poor Brentford have been this year.

Chelsea have a lot of noise in the background coming into this game with the Roman Abramovich fall out and some believe it will affect the players but so far that hasn’t been the case. The Blues destroyed a very good Burnley defence at the weekend winning that game 4-0 and have advanced into the quarter finals of the FA Cup, the club are in very good form and have won their last 3 games.

After being 3rd for so long it would be a disappointment for Thomas Tuchel’s side if they were to slip to 4th and there are plenty of teams chasing them that could take over with the favourites being Arsenal who are only 5 points behind them but have a game in hand, so for Chelsea they will try to continue to win games. We say try because their league chances are over, so one would wonder about the motivation but Tuchel will know that his team need to win games to build a spirit so they can do well in the cup competitions they have left to play.

Team News:

Norwich: There are no new injuries for the club coming into this game.

Chelsea: Marcos Alonso should return from illness as that forced him to miss the last game. Cesar Azpilicueta has a knock and will need to be assessed. Reece James is a major doubt for this game with a muscle injury.

Norwich vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Earlier in the season Chelsea beat Norwich 7-0!

The last the clubs played here was back in 2019 and Chelsea won 3-2.

Chelsea have won the last 4 meetings in a row and Norwich haven’t beaten Chelsea in any game since 1994.

Norwich vs Chelsea Prediction:

Chelsea would have taken a lot of heart in beating Burnley 4-0. Forget Burnley’s position they have had a very good defensive record and for Chelsea to be scoring goals again is a major boost for them. Chelsea are in 3rd place and have one of the best strikers in Europe in Romelu Lukaku but they have scored almost 20 goals less than Manchester City and Liverpool and they would like to think they can make that gap a little less on Thursday evening.

Norwich will have a game plan and we've seen them make Manchester City and Liverpool work very hard for points but that was at a point where there seemed to be a little light at the end of the tunnel, we don’t see that outlook for the club presently and they could lose heavily here especially if they concede an early goal. Chelsea are about 1.25 to win so not many will get excited by that market so we will have to look into different ones to get better value. But Chelsea shouldn’t have any problems getting all three points here and the value could be on the Blues to win on a negative handicap.

Norwich vs Chelsea Betting Tips:

Handicap: Chelsea to beat Norwich with a -1 goal start at 1.80

Anytime goalscorer: Romelu Lukaku at 1.91
