Venue: St. James' Park
Match Preview:
Top four looked like a solid prospect for Newcastle a few weeks ago but can the same be said now? The Magpies come into this game in 6th place but they would go into 5th with a win and have 2 games in hand over 4th placed Tottenham who are seven points in front of them so there is a lot to play for, but this game could also tell us a lot.
Newcastle are not losing many games but the amount of draws they have collected has really hampered their season and they haven’t been able to win a game in the league for a staggering two months. After such a great season it is this form which could well end up punishing Eddie Howe’s season and the club need to get that winning feeling back and quickly. At home the Magpies have lost just one game so far and won 50% of their games but have drawn here five times which has anchored them somewhat. It’s also just one win at home in their last four and that will be a major concern for the club coming into this game.
Wolves are in 13th place which sounds good but it is so tight in the bottom half of the table and they have 27 points which is only four points shy of the bottom three. Currently their form has been a mix but has only seen one win in their last four however that victory at least did come in their last game which was against Tottenham in a 1-0 result. That was a huge win for them but now of course they are away from home. On the road it’s just two wins so far and the club has lost 7 games and have won 10 points from a possible 39. Wolves last away game ended in a predictable 2-0 defeat against Liverpool and in their previous away game they drew 1-1 with Fulham.
Team News:
Newcastle: Joe Linton is suspended for 2 games because he picked up his tenth yellow card of the season. Fabian Schar is being tipped to return after his recent head injury.
Wolves: Hugo Bueno has a hamstring injury and remains out, he is not due back for another 3 weeks at least. Hwang Hee-Chan will be assessed due to a lack of match fitness, it is the same case for Boubar Traore.
Newcastle vs Wolves Head to Head:
Last season Newcastle won this fixture 1-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the sides drew 1-1.
It’s been 4 years since Wolves beat Newcastle away from home.
There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Newcastle vs Wolves Prediction:
Newcastle has the better team and have been very solid at home but there will be some lingering doubts over their pedigree and form coming into this meeting. Maybe we are taking the bait but the 1.57 being offered on the home win whilst quite short isnt the worst price if we consider Newcastle’s overall home form this season and manager Howe has to make sure that all of their work and hard effort doesn’t unravel at the last hurdle, so we will take the home side on to get the 3 points at the weekend.
It should be noted that fixtures between the clubs has been tight and that unfashionable players and some out of form have been able to get the winning goals so it is worth looking into value markets for this one. Wolves need the points for sure but Newcastle also need to show the league that there is life in them just yet and being at home we expect them to get the victory.
Newcastle vs Wolves Betting Tips:
