Newcastle vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 1st December 2018
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

Newcastle are finally turning their season around and the 2-1 win at Burnley on Monday night means that the Magpies have now won 3 games in a row and they have gone their last 4 games without defeat. This form has seen the club rise from the bottom three and into 13th place on the same points as West Ham but beating them on goal difference and now the two sides who have been in short underwhelming this season will go toe to toe in what should be a very entertaining game of football.

After a very poor record at St James Park which has seen Rafa Benitez’s men lose 5 games already, they have won their last two here against the likes of Watford and Bournemouth, two sides who have punched above their weight this season.

West Ham predictably lost 4-0 to Manchester City last weekend but if truth be told the Hammers have not been in good form anyway with just 1 win from their last five. Draws have glossed over recent form but the club just don’t seem to have any consistency which is hampering their season under new coach Manuel Pellegrini, though it must be said that they have been unlucky with injuries.

Away from home West Ham have drawn their last 2 games but have won just one game on the road so far and have 5 points from a possible 18.

Team News:

Newcastle: Yoshinori Muto remains a doubt with a leg injury but will be assessed ahead of this game. Jamie Sterry is out with a knock. Florian Lejeune could make a return to the squad after a lack of match fitness

West Ham: Ryan Fredericks has been confirmed to be out for up to 3 months after his shin injury. He is the only new injury for the Hammers who have the likes of Manuel Lanzini, Andriy Yarmolenko and Carlos Sanchez out for extended periods

Newcastle vs West Ham Head to Head:

Newcastle have won the last 3 meetings when being at home.

West Ham have not won away in this fixture since 2012.

Newcastle have scored 8 goals past West Ham in the last 3 meetings.

Newcastle vs West Ham Prediction:

This looks like an unpredictable game but we will go for Newcastle who are in form to get all three points in this game but also cover the draw for extra security. West Ham still remain unpredictable as to what sort of performance they will put in, but if Newcastle can build on their confidence and latest matches then they have the chance to score a few goals here and make this a nightmare trip for Pellegrini’s men.
