Newcastle vs Watford: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 3rd November 2018
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

A 0-0 draw against Southampton didn’t help Newcastle’s hopes too much last weekend and the club remain in 19th place, still looking for their first win of the season.

The draw at least stopped a 3 game losing run, but you wonder just how long manager Rafa Benitez will stay with the club given their plight. Returning home should signify a positive outcome until we see that the Magpies have the worst home form in the Premier League, 5 losses from 5 matches played. The only positive is that in each game they have lost by narrow one goal margins.

A lot of credit needs to be handed out to Watford because after losing two games in a row their early season form looked expired. Not so. Wins over Wolves and Huddersfield has seen the team in 7th place and they are just two points short of the top five and are above Manchester United, that’s not bad going after the first 10 games.

The Hornets have only played 4 games away from home and won two of them, but their last was hugely significant coming against quality like Wolves and they remain a danger in this game for Benitez’s side.

Team News:

Newcastle: Jamie Strerry is still out for an unknown reason, otherwise Newcastle have no new major injuries

Watford: Craig Cathcart has a knock but could return. Troy Deeney could be set to miss this game with a hamstring injury and might be rested until after the international break. Sebastian Prodl is out with a leg injury

Newcastle vs Watford Head to Head:

The last time the teams met here Watford won 3-0.

Newcastle have not beaten Watford at home since 2009.

In the last 5 games Watford have won this match 2-1 on 3 occasions.

Newcastle vs Watford Prediction:

Newcastle need to find a way to win at home and it might end up being through some sheer luck, that is how poor the side are playing. Watford will be a strong opponent and they like coming to this ground. The game will be entertaining and we should witness a cup tie style of play with end to end football. Watford have started the better team but in truth there isn’t too much between the clubs. Our verdict here is to see an away win and more misery for the home side, but with the added safety of having the draw covered.
