England Premier League
Wednesday 15th July 2020
Kick off at 6pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park
Match Preview:
At this rate Tottenham may not qualify for European football, though the chance is still there the club have looked good but vulnerable and it is clear that Jose Mourinho will need to sell some players, bring some in and change the shape of the team.
It’s all very well earlier in the restart getting a draw against Manchester United but Tottenham have also drawn against Bournemouth and in that game they were lucky to escape with a draw when Callum Wilson’s goal was chalked off by VAR for a handball. It shouldn’t be lost on anyone that Mourinho’s win rate with Tottenham is the worst of his managerial career.
Newcastle are plugging on and for manager Steve Bruce he should be celebrating equalling then beating Rafa Benitez’s points total. All in all Bruce has done well with what he has had at Newcastle and there has been a lot of off the field distractions with will the club be taken over, so the Magpies have responded on the pitch mostly in a very positive manner.
The Magpies have not lost in their last 5 games at home and because of the pandemic that goes back to the beginning of the year. Their biggest problem though has been the amount of draws they have chalked up at St James’ Park, which is 8, that is almost 50% of their games, had those been converted into wins they would be challenging for a Champions League spot, even half of those as wins would be good to challenge for a Europa League place.
Team News:
Newcastle: Sean Longstaff and Andy Carroll are both unavailable, Florian Lejeune is nearing a return. Key defender Lascelles is doubtful.
Tottenham: Eric Dier is suspended for this encounter, whilst Dele Alli is once again doubtful.
Newcastle vs Tottenham Head to Head:
Earlier in the season Newcastle won the reverse fixture 1-0.
Tottenham have won 4 of the last 5 meetings.
There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Newcastle vs Tottenham Prediction:
Tottenham have a pretty decent record going to Newcastle but there is one major problem for the club and that is their manager Jose Mourinho. Infamously Mourinho doesn’t win games away to Newcastle, doesn’t matter if he’s manager of Chelsea or Manchester United, Newcastle or at least St James’ Park seems to be his bogey ground.
So there is that to consider but also the fact that Tottenham have not looked like a sharp ruthless team, look at how Manchester United have been performing to see the difference. They look like two steps from being a great side but one step to being a team who finish in the bottom half of the table. Recent encounters between these two sides have been tight, which is why backing under 2,5 goals could be worth a look. Also, the odds on Newcastle look good value, so backing them on the handicap is also appealing.
Newcastle vs Tottenham Betting Tips:
