Newcastle vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 11th August 2018
Kick off at 12.30pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

The Saturday lunch time game is set to be a mouthwatering clash between Newcastle and Tottenham at what will be a packed out St.James’ Park.

For both clubs it has been a summer of discontent in different ways. Newcastle’s fans once promised to relinquish their season tickets if owner Mike Ashley let manager Rafa Benitez leave the club, and with Tottenham, despite a new stadium in place they haven’t bought any players in this transfer window.

Newcastle have spent £16m on three new players which simply is loose change for Premier League standards. One such new recruit is forward Yoshinori Muto who has come from Mainz. The 26 year old scored 10 goals in all competitions for the Bundesliga team last season. But they have seen Aleksander Mitrovic sold for £22m to Fulham. In short this has not been a productive market for The Magpies.

Tottenham have a superb team but fans are worried that no new players have been brought in. The good news, at least, is that no major players have been sold, but questions will remain about the teams progress this season.

Newcastle vs Tottenham Team News:

Newcastle United: Martin Dubravka received a knock in pre season and is a doubt for the beginning of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur: Victor Wanayama is out for an extended period after a knee injury in pre season. Erik Lamela and Moussa Sissoko are carrying minor injuries and will be assessed.

Newcastle vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Tottenham has won the last 2 meetings.

The last time the teams played at this stadium, Tottenham won 2-0.

Every time the clubs have played in August this century, which has been 3 times the half time correct score has always been 0-0.

Newcastle vs Tottenham Prediction:

The first day of the season means that tactics can go out of the window fairly early on as both clubs will be determined not to drop points. The transfer inactivity of Tottenham must be playing on everyone’s minds but there is also unrest at Newcastle, and at least all of the Spurs players are familiar with the tactics and each other as no new players have joined. Both teams will measure each other up in the early stages and if goals are scored it's more likely to happen in the 2nd half, so this and a Spurs win will be our main bets for this game.

Newcastle vs Tottenham Betting Tips:
