Match Preview:
Newcastle are up to 11th, their best position yet under Steve Bruce after they beat Sheffield United 2-0 away from home in what has been seen as a very impressive result. The Magpies have lost just one game in their past five and come into this game unbeaten in two matches. One of those was drawing 2-2 against Manchester City, so it’s clear that this is a good period for the club and Bruce seems to be turning things around for Newcastle.
On form Newcastle would be in 5th place and at home they have only lost one game, which was at the beginning of the season against Arsenal. The problem is that they have drawn too many games at St James' Park, 4 so far. They currently have a pattern at home of win, draw, win and if that continues they are a due another win.
Southampton are facing their longest trip for a league match, and come here in decent form. They have gone their last 3 matches unbeaten and as a result are in 18th place with only goal diffrence keeping them in the relegation zone. They have also won back to back matches beating Watford and Norwich and the game before that they went to the Emirates and drew 2-2 with Arsenal. Depending on results the Saints could move up 3-4 places with a win here but their away form is not good. Their last away win was against Sheffield United in mid September.

Newcastle: DeAndre Yedlin is fighting to be fit for this game after his hip injury. Allan Saint-Maximin could be a doubt with a niggling ankle injury and will be assessed
Southampton: Sofiane Boufal has a toe injury and will face a late test, he is currently the only injury worry for the Saints

At home in this match against the club in 18th place we expect them to acheive at least a point. We also expect end to end football and a very entertaining match with plenty of chances for both sides. The fact that this fixture has a high rate of goals in it means that this will be one of our choices. Newcastle are a very good price to win this game and the bookmakers see this as being very open, despite the fact that Southampton have a poor record travelling here, this is why we will opt for a home win but with the draw covered.
