England Premier League
Wednesday 30th December 2020
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park
Match Preview:
Newcastle are simply too inconsistent and come into this match with no wins in their last three. This set of results has seen the club drop down too 14th place and they have 18 points.
At the weekend the Magpies were beaten 2-0 against Manchester City, which could be expected but one has to wonder if the club have recovered from their 6-2 thrashing at the hands of newly promoted Leeds a few weeks ago? Now they will face one of their toughest games of the season in Liverpool, a win could move Steve Bruce’s side up a couple of places and this is the first of two home games back to back.
Newcastle have earned 10 points from the 21 available at home with their last home game finishing 1-1 against Fulham. Their last victory at home was earlier this month with a 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion.
Liverpool were stunned as they drew 1-1 at home to West Bromwich Albion and with only 2 shots on target perhaps felt the full force of a team set up to defend ala Sam Allardyce style. It was the first time that Liverpool had failed to win a game at home this season and it was 2 major points dropped. The Reds could have come into this new round of games seven points clear with a win, so this does feel like a set back for the club.
Still the champions are in 1st place and could go at least five points clear with a win heading into the New Year. Liverpool have picked up 11 points from their last 15 and away from home they would be in 9th place. Indeed the clubs trips have not been very successful winning just 2 games with just over 60% of their games ending in draws. However the Reds did win their last away game, a memorable one as they beat Crystal Palace 7-0.

Newcastle vs Liverpool Prediction:
Newcastle are not a bad side at all but it is hard to be fully convinced by the club so far this season and only an off day from Liverpool will prevent an away win. The way Newcastle play should ‘play’ into Liverpool’s hands and we see a few goals here.
The champions are struggling with a few injuries and Newcastle will have their chances and so both teams to score should be taken on. We expect an incident packed game and Newcastle can probably afford to take some risks, but we see plenty of goals and Liverpool making up for their draw against West Brom. It might not end like their last away game a 7-0 thrashing against Palace but expect goals and a very entertaining game. But Liverpool should be getting back to the winning trail.
