Newcastle vs Leicester: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 22nd May 2023
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

If Newcastle want to play in the Champions League next season they need only a draw to get the job done and many will be expecting Eddie Howe’s side to make no mistakes against Leicester at home.

The Magpies have lost just two games at home although they were beaten last time out as they fell 2-0 to Arsenal. However they have been one of the strongest sides at home winning 10 of their games and almost averaging 2 goals at home per match. This game will likely seal their top four status and also seal Leicester’s fate depending on other results. It would be quite something to see Leicester go down after winning the league title just seven years ago but that is the reality of the situation. It’s no wins in the Foxes last four games and we would have to go back to their Wolves victory a month ago to witness the last time they were able to pick up 3 points. If the Foxes are to go down it just underlines how no team is too good to go down because there is a lot of quality in this Leicester side.

Leicester have lost their last two games coming into this one. First it was a 5-3 loss to Fulham and then that was followed up by losing 3-0 at home to Liverpool. On the road this season the Foxes have lost 12 of their 18 games with just two points won from their last 15 on offer.

Team News:

Newcastle: Sean Longstaff is struggling with a foot injury and he would do well to return back this season. There are long term season ending injuries for Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie.

Leicester: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall had an ankle injury last week but he is being tipped to return for this game but will need to be assessed first. Kelechi Iheanacho is only 50/50 to return from his groin injury. Caglar Soyuncu has a hamstring injury and this game looks like coming too soon for him. Ryan Bertrand, Sammy Braybrook and Justin James and Jannick Vestergaard are all out for the season. Danny Ward has a hand injury and could return but will be assessed.

Newcastle vs Leicester Head to Head:

The teams last met here at the beginning of the year in the EFL Cup and Newcastle won 2-0.

Last season this fixture finished 2-1 to Newcastle.

Newcastle have won 4 of the last five meetings.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Newcastle vs Leicester Prediction:

Leicester need to give everything in this game of course but perhaps the latest couple of losses to Fulham and Liverpool have forewarned us about this game. You can lose games but to concede 8 goals in the last two games when you need to fight for survival is just not good enough. Newcastle are on a mission and not only can they win this game but they should be able to do so comfortably. That is not to disrespect Leicester of course but on the evidence of both teams play this season coupled with the most recent form this is our evaluation.

Joelinton has been in decent form for the Magpies and he has scored in the last two games against Leicester so get on him to score anytime. We expect to see goals too and the history of this one points that way too. It would be a real stunner to see anything but a home win at the weekend.

Newcastle vs Leicester Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Newcastle) at 1.54

Anytime goalscorer: Joelinton at 3.65
