England Premier League
Sunday 17th April 2022
Kick off at 2:15pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park
Match Preview:
Newcastle ended a worrying 3 game losing streak last weekend as they edged past Wolves 1-0. That will surely be enough for the Magpies to survive this season as they have 34 points and are 10 points clear of the bottom three with a plethora of teams in between. The club will be looking to win back to back games and especially at home in the last few months Eddie Howe’s side have been a tough team to beat. Witness the form which has seen Newcastle win their last four home games in a row beating Wolves, Brighton, Aston Villa and Everton.
Victory for Newcastle could see the club move up 2-3 places depending on other results although they are some way off Leicester with a six point gap to them but have also played two games more.
Leicester could be forgiven for not caring too much about the last few games they have in the Premier League. The Foxes really outdid themselves in the Europa Conference League in midweek as they reached the semi-finals of the competition. But it was also the way they did it that will live long in the memories of the fans as they came back from 1-0 down to beat PSV away from home 2-1 and go through. Brendan Rodgers side will now face Jose Mourinho’s Roma for a place in the final.
The Foxes have gone their last 3 games unbeaten in the league but despite having games in hand over their direct rivals a European finish does seem unlikely, still the club do have some form. Last weekend they beat Crystal Palace which was an impressive result given that Palace themselves have been playing some good football lately. Away from home there has been a different picture though with just one win in their last five and their last away game finished in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

Newcastle vs Leicester Prediction:
Leicester have had a lot of joy over Newcastle in recent years but the wise choice here should be to back the home win. The market is open for this game and while Leicester have been solid one would have to think that the players would have celebrated on Thursday evening in the Netherlands. It was also an intense game and all the while Newcastle could relax in the week and they will be at home for this game. The opportunity to win this game seems crystal clear for us for the Magpies and we expect them to do so, history is against Eddie Howe’s side though.
We shouldn’t forget that Newcastle have been very good at home since the turn of the year and the project looks clear enough, win their home games, and make St James’ Park a hard ground to come to, for now that objective is being met. If we single out just the home matches for Newcastle Ryan Fraser has been impressive in getting goals, he is touch and go to play, so check the starting line up but if he gets the nod then back him. We will also back the over goals market as this fixture has a good history of seeing 3 goals or over.
Newcastle vs Leicester Betting Tips:
Newcastle to beat Leicester at 2.25
Over 2.5 goals at 1.91
