Newcastle vs Leicester: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 1st January 2020
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

Newcastle lost a rare game at home, only their 2nd of the season as they were beaten 2-1 by a rejuvenated Everton a couple of days ago.

The Magpies have had a very solid first half of the season and come into this game in 11th place with 25 points. However recent form has dipped and the club have lost 3 of their last 4 matches. They have also become leaky at the back and conceded six goals in their last two games. Home form is normally very good and before the Everton defeat their last loss at St James' was against Arsenal in August.

Leicester are still in 2nd place and their 2-1 win against West Ham ended a 3 game run without victory. They have 42 points and are now 13 behind Liverpool and just one point in front of Manchester City. They are 11 points clear of 5th and remain on course to qualify for next seasons Champions League.

The Foxes have the 3rd best away record winning 60% of their games and they have won 4 of their last 5 matches on the road. Their last game away from home ended up being the result which ended Manuel Pellegrini’s time with the Hammers.

Team News:

Newcastle: Fabian Schar has a hamstring injury but is racing fit to be fine for this game, he will be assessed. Joelinton has a calf problem and will also face a late test

Leicester: The Foxes have no new injury concerns coming into this game

Newcastle vs Leicester Prediction:

It could be that Leicester have had their blip and that their latest battling win over West Ham could signal a revival. Leicester do have a great record at Newcastle and obviously remain a threat to most sides in the league. Newcastle’s injury list keeps growing and their form is not good. Steve Bruce has done a terrific job and the club keep churning out very good results but this could be a negative moment in the clubs season so far. We think Leicester can win this match and we expect to see a very fast paced and physical game. It may seem obvious but Jamie Vardy the leagues top goalscorer loves getting goals against Newcastle and we will back the striker to get on the score sheet once again.

Newcastle vs Leicester Betting Tips:
