England Premier League
Saturday 19th December 2020
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park
Match Preview:
The weekend game with Fulham is all about forgetting what happened in midweek for Newcastle as Steve Bruce’s team were battered by Leeds United and lost that game 5-2. That result would have brought Newcastle back down to earth as they had won their two previous games. Now they have the same points as Leeds with 17 but will be favourites to win this match.
The Magpies remain inconsistent and have lost 3 of their last five games but did have two wins sandwiched into that so you’re never quite sure what you will get from them. At home 9 of their 17 points have been earned here and they won their last home match beating West Bromwich Albion 2-1 but they have no draws here and from six matches played they have won 3 and lost 3.
Fulham earned another hard fought point in midweek with a 0-0 draw against Brighon as Scott Parker’s team are doing everything to stay up. Already it is looking like a battle for the club but they have shown in recent weeks a lot of improvement. That includes drawing against Liverpool and a win at Leicester. However whilst the Cottagers are in 17th place only goal difference is keeping them there from Burnley.
On the road Fulham have lost 4 from six played and their last away game ended in a 2-0 defeat at Manchester City, although it is worth noting that they played out a 0-0 in the 2nd half in that encounter.
Team News:
Newcastle: The Magpies have no new injuries coming into this match although Allan Saint-Maximin looks like he will miss out once again with a muscle related injury.
Fulham: No new major injuries for the club ahead of this fixture.
Newcastle vs Fulham Head to Head:
The clubs last played here in the league in 2018 and the game finished 0-0.
Fulham have not won at Newcastle in the league since 2009.
4 of the last five games has seen under 1.5 goals.
Newcastle vs Fulham Prediction:
There is no question that with this being an away game Fulham will be setting up to once again get a draw. All of these one points do add up come the end of the season and Scott Parker will understand this.
A good version of Newcastle will have little trouble in getting the win but they have been like a few teams this season in that you don’t know what you are going to get. Having said that this is a long trip for Fulham and they have a poor record here and whilst showing a lot of fight we think they will come up short.
Newcastle need to earn points at home if they want to punch above their weight and try and claim a top ten place and we believe that they should be too strong for Fulham and gain a close victory and the Magpies are very good odds to do so, so we can cover the draw for extra safety.
