England Premier League

Kick off at 7:45pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park
Match Preview:
Here we have two great and historic teams who could be playing Championship football next season although both will be tipped to avoid the drop. But as the old saying goes you're never too good to go down.
Newcastle have been in the headlines after acquiring new owners this season but the club have really struggled. One has to believe that struggle will end now with the plethora of players that have been brought into the club. Bruno Gumarares leads the way but there is also experienced quality at the back in Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood will be looking to find his form up front.
The Magpies are in 19th place but only one point separates them from safety and they are unbeaten in their last 3 games. Their last match finished in a 1-0 victory over Leeds away and at home it’s only 1 defeat in their last 5 although we should remind ourselves that the club have only won once at home from 11 games.
It’s all change at Everton after Rafa Benitez was sacked last month. In stepped the reliable Duncan Ferguson but he lasted for one game and one interview before the club opted for Chelsea legend Frank Lampard to take the managerial role. Lampard has instantly impressed as his side beat Brentford 4-1 at the weekend in the FA Cup. While the cup will not be Everton’s priority this season given it was Lampard’s first game in charge, a win was a must and the players should be ready for this game and in good confidence.
The plight of Everton is very real and the Toffees who have not been relegated in 70 years come into this game in 16th place and just four points from the drop. Since the end of September Everton have won just 1 league game and have lost their last 3. On the road Everton have the 3rd to worst record in the Premier League and have won just six points from a possible 30. The club has a 60% loss rate and have won just once away from home.
Team News:
Newcastle: Fernandez is only 50/50 to return from his thigh injury. Joelinton has a good chance to be back from a groin injury and will be assessed. Callum Wilson is out until next month at least with his calf injury.
Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin has a knock but will be assessed ahead of the game. Abdoulaye Doucoure is ruled out for at least two weeks with a groin injury. Ben Godfrey is out with a hamstring, Fabian Delph has a thigh injury and isn’t expected back until the end of the month.
Newcastle vs Everton Head to Head:
Last season Newcastle won this fixture 2-1.
It’s been 4 games since Everton beat Newcastle.
5 from the last 6 games has seen both teams to score.
Newcastle vs Everton Prediction:
Victory would guarantee Everton going into 15th place and past Leeds as Marcelo Bielsa’s team do not play until the day after. But a loss would sound real alarm bells at the club. What the Toffees need is a good solid 3-4 weeks under new manager Lampard but recent results over Newcastle have not been good.
Callum Wilson has scored 4 goals past Everton in the last two meetings so maybe the omens are with the visitors given that he will be missing. The Magpies though are in good form and the players need to show the owners and fans that their new found investments are going to reap success on the pitch. In that way there is an equal amount of pressure on both sides. One has to side with Everton though because playing at the weekend in the cup would have been a good thing and Everton have not been this good all season, there was a reaction and there should be another one in midweek.
At the same time it is hard to write off Newcastle but for small stakes it has to be said that Everton are a very good price to win this game, and we will be backing them to do so but covering the draw with a refund just in case.
