Newcastle vs Crystal Palace: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 20th April 2022
Kick off at 7:45pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

Although it’s far from mathematically confirmed Newcastle should be safe now after they beat Leicester 2-1 at the weekend. The Magpies have pulled 12 points clear of the bottom three and have 37 points.

Since the beginning of the year what has really saved Newcastle has been their excellent home form and they lost just once from their last 10 games at home. This includes winning their last five and the club ended a 3 game losing streak in all games by recently beating Leicester of course and also Wolves.

One has to wonder just how high Newcastle could finish and they are only 3 points from finishing in the top half of the table. Eddie Howe will be looking at this objective now and it is a goal for the club now.

Crystal Palace have been really solid this season but of course have had their ups and downs. Last weekend was a major blow for the club as they were knocked out of the FA Cup at the semi-final stage as they lost 2-0 against Chelsea. The hope of getting to what would have been a historic final for the Eagles is going to create quite a solemn atmosphere and they would do well to get anything in this game, remembering also the distance between the two clubs.

On the road Palace have only won 3 games, although their recent defeat by Leicester ended a decent 4 game unbeaten streak away from home. We should also remember that both of these clubs have the same points so they will be fighting for position, currently the Eagles are edging Newcastle due goal difference.

Newcastle vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

Newcastle have been strong at home and while they are not scoring many goals they are keeping clean sheets in general at home. It is easy to see that the clubs project was to keep it real at home with the money that has been injected and make St James’ Park a tough place to come to. There was also the objective to survive but that has happened now and now you would expect the owners to want to see the club finish in the top half. The pressure remains on Eddie Howe of course but he will want to stay in the job for as long as possible as there should be some interesting transfers and money available in the summer, so this period for Howe is all about impressing the owners.

Palace are a very good side but they will have to pick themselves up. Had this been a home game it would have been difficult enough but away from home against a side now in form we only see one winner here and will be backing the home side to get the points. Midfielder Bruno Guimares has been on great form and the fans already love him, he has already bagged a couple of goals and we will tip him to score again in this match.
