England Premier League

Venue: St. James' Park
Match Preview:
Some pressure was lifted from Steve Bruce when Newcastle played one of their best games of their season going to Everton last weekend and beating them 2-0. The Magpies were the underdogs for that game but they played well against a disappointing Everton side and grabbed 3 vital points in the process.
It was interesting to see Newcastle adapt from a 5 man defence to just four and have more intent on attacking. Is it any coincidence that the club looked like a different team as they had hired Graeme Jones as assistant manager and Jones seemed like he influenced the win over Everton. New blood injected into back room staff may just be what Newcastle need right now and they head into this midweek match surely with positive thoughts.
The victory over Everton ended a dire run for Newcastle and they are in 15th with 22 points and could pass Wolves with a win. The Magpies have not won at home since beating West Bromwich Albion seven weeks ago and overall have won just 30% of games here. Newcastle’s last game at home ended in a 2-1 defeat to Leeds.
Crystal Palace recorded a 1-0 win over Wolves at the weekend to end a 3 game win less streak and they have 4 more points than their hosts. Palace have picked up seven points from their last 15 but have struggled some what on the road. The Eagles have won just 30% of games away from home and have no away wins since beating West Bromwich Albion 5-1 two months ago. Palace’s last away game ended in a 4-0 loss against Manchester City.
Team News:
Newcastle: Paul Dummett is 50/50 because of fitness issues. Jamaal Lascelles has a hamstring injury and looks set to miss the next two weeks. DeAndre Yedlin appears to have had his visa issue sorted out and could be back in contention to be selected. Fernandez is out long term with a hamstring injury.
Crystal Palace: James McCarthy has a knock but will be assessed. James Tomkins also has a knock and is a doubt.
Newcastle vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:
Last season Newcastle won this match 1-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Newcastle won 2-0.
Crystal Palace have just 1 victory at Newcastle in the last seven matches played here.
The last 8 league games in a row have all ended in under 2.5 goals.
Newcastle vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
We expect a close match which could go either way and Newcastle simply have not been consistent enough at home. However assistant manager Jones has felt like a brand new player signing and a lot of Newcastle fans are already praising his impact on the team. If he and Bruce can get along as a team than Newcastle will feel rejuvenated and we should be looking at an upturn in their form.
Callum Wilson scored a brace at the weekend and strikers work on confidence he will be relishing this game and won’t want to wait a second longer to play football again and have chances in front of goal he should be taken on to score anytime.
Crystal Palace are a decent club of course and will make this hard for Newcastle but we expect a home win. Palace are going to pick up more points, one suspects, at home this season and could struggle at times on the road.
