England Premier League
Saturday 30th October 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park
Match Preview:
Newcastle are waiting for their first victory since being taken over and one would presume that would be extended over the weekend.
In the Magpies last two games they have lost 3-2 to Tottenham and drawn 1-1 at Crystal Palace. There has of course been a lot of change at the club, new owners and Steve Bruce lasted just one game before he was sacked. The club have lots of ambition and dreams but small steps will have to be taken first as they come into this game in 19th place and are yet to win a game so far. It’s been 3 points earned from the last possible 15 and at home they have been able to draw against Leeds and Southampton.
Chelsea had a nervous time of it in the EFL Cup in midweek but squeezed past Southampton on penalties after that game had finished 1-1. That victory keeps up the winning momentum for the Blues who have won their last 3 games and are top of the league, although only by one point.
Last weekend was one of the biggest miss matches we are likely to see this season but you can’t take anything away from Chelsea who thrashed sorry Norwich 7-0. The Blues are looking in great shape and have scored 23 goals so far, only Liverpool have more. They have also only conceded 3 goals which is the best in the league. On the road Thomas Tuchel’s side are unbeaten with three wins and one draw and have conceded just once.
Team News:
Newcastle: The club have no new injuries ahead of this game.
Chelsea: Cesar Azpilicueta should recover from a shoulder injury and will be assessed. Andreas Christensen missed the game in midweek due to a dental problem and it is unclear if he will be available for this game and must be considered 50/50. Ruben Loftus-Cheek has a chance to play after recovering from his hip injury. Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner are set to miss out again and may not return for another two weeks at least.
Newcastle vs Chelsea Head to Head:
Last season Chelsea won this fixture 2-0 and indeed the Blues won both meetings by the same scoreline.
From the last 6 meetings Newcastle have just 1 victory.
The last four meetings in a row have all been under 2.5 goals.
Newcastle haven’t beaten Chelsea away from home since 2012.
Newcastle vs Chelsea Prediction:
Obviously Chelsea have the better side and will be the team producing more of the attacking. However this is a statement match for Newcastle and they are at home. After the new owners have taken place there is a different air around St James’ Park and the fans will be expecting a close run game.
Chelsea will be missing some key players but they have a very good in depth squad as Norwich found out and if they score early this game could really open up for them.
Newcastle will have to defend for long periods but we expect Chelsea's pressure to break their defence as the match wears on, which could then lead to a few more gaps in defence.
Newcastle vs Chelsea Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (-1 Chelsea) at 1.60
Half Time Correct Score: 0-0 or 1-0 to Chelsea at 3.25 and 3.30
Anytime goalscorer: Mason Mount at 2.75
