Match Preview:

This is a big month for relegation threatened Newcastle as manager Rafa Benitez will be hoping to secure some fresh faces to boost their chances of survival.

The Magpies will be the favourites to win this game at home to Cardiff and they come into the clash in 18^th place but just a point from safety. They have won just two games in the league since November with their last victory coming against Huddersfield on Decemeber 15^th.

Beintez can claim that his team have had some difficult fixtures lately- matches they all lost in facing Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea and it may be welcome relief to face Cardiff but at the same time Neil Warnock’s team are also down their in 17^th and are fighting for the points too.

At St James’ Park Newcastle have lost 8 times from 11 games and scored just 7 times. Only Crystal Palace and Huddersfield have less goals at home.

If Cardiff finish where they are now in 17^th they will be happy with themselves but obviously they would like to push on, which they can do with a win. In effect they could find themselves at least four points from the drop with victory here.

Form for the club has been decent with just one loss in their past four games, although the majority of their recent results have been littered with draws.

Team News:

Newcastle: Ciaran Clark should be fine after he suffered a minor knock last weekend. Mohamed Diame will be assessed after he suffered a hip problem. Kenedy is set to return after his minor toe injury

Cardiff: Victor Camarasa should return after a knock. Kadeem Harris is 50/50 to make the team with a shoulder injury. Daniel Ward has a cheekbone injury and could miss this game after some delays to recovery

A draw is always a risky bet to choose but this game could well finish in that result. Newcastle should be solid at home but it is Cardiff who come here with the heads held high, and it may be worth taking on the away team then in the double chance. We will also back the correct score for smaller stakes, in game which may well start off very cautious, the more it does, the more the pace of the game could well work out for Neil Warnock’s side.
