Newcastle vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

The evening match on Saturday will take place between Newcastle and Burnley.

Newcastle have been involved in two games back to back where they have left it late to celebrate. The first was controversial, when they played Tottenham and were out played in the game but walked away with a 1-1 draw. Losing the game in deep injury time Andy Carroll headed the ball onto Eric Dier’s arm with the Tottenham defender not being able to do anything about it and a penalty was awarded as those are the new rules. The Magpies were relieved to walk away with a point.

Then in midweek they overcame Newport on penalties sparing a few blushes, but did so after they drew 1-1 and won on a very nervous penalty shoot-out. Maybe this slice of luck will get the team playing again because they looked winded ever since Brighton went to their ground and won 3-0. Steve Bruce’s team will be tipped to get all the points in this encounter with Burnley.

Burnley went out of the Carabao Cup in midweek, which was much expected as holders Manchester City beat them 3-0. In truth Sean Dyche will be taking the clubs Premier League status more seriously. He will have to as they come into this game in 18th place with no wins in their first two matches. Whilst losing away to Leicester could be accepted once the dust settles losing at home to an off form Southampton should have the alarm bells ringing, and this match presents another tough fixture.

Team News:

Newcastle: Allan Saint-Maximin has recoverd from a thigh injury and is expected to be fit for this match. DeAndre Yedlin has a slight knock he will be assessed. The main worry for the Magpies is the amount of long term injuries that have piled up and the club will be without Matt Ritchie, Matthew Longstaff, Dwight Gayle, Paul Dummett, Martin Dubravka and Ciaran Clarke.

Burnley: Robert Brady is out with a rib problem but is expected to be back after the international break. Jack Cork is still out from last season with an ankle injury. Matthew Lowton has a slight knock and will be assessed, Ben Mee and Jay Rodriguez are not returning to playing until after the international break.

Newcastle vs Burnley Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 0-0.

The last 3 meetings have all been under 2.5 goals.

4 from the last six meetings has seen the correct score at half time as 0-0.

Newcastle vs Burnley Prediction:

We expect Newcastle to get the win but will cover the draw for extra safety. Losing two games at home back to back can’t happen for the club or a real struggle could take place. The Magpies have injuries but their opponents with all due respect have looked poor so far in the limited time that we have seen them.

Still we don’t expect to see a vintage match. History points to low goals, and we feel that if Newcastle are to win this they will have to work very hard for it, betting on the card market could be beneficial as the game could become physical, we will back for there to be more goals as the game goes on.
