Newcastle vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

Newcastle will be aiming for a European finish but in which competition will they qualify for? Eddie Howe’s are in a Europa League position and come into this weekend on 56 points and are two clear of Chelsea however there is a direct rival in Manchester United lurking and they have a game in hand which if won would take them past Newcastle. The bottom line is win games and Newcastle need to do so and one would expect they will do when they host Brighton at home. Form bodes well for the club with 4 wins from their past five games and just the one loss. Newcastle have also won their last two games in a row with victories over Sheffield United and Burnley and while they are the two poorest sides in the league Howe’s side has still managed to score 9 goals. At home Newcastle has 12 wins from 18 games and has the fourth best home record in the league.

Brighton recorded a rare victory over Aston Villa at the weekend with an excellent 1-0 win. It was a welcomed win for the Seagulls who have really struggled in the second half of the season. With 47 points the club has a very good chance of at least finishing in the top half of the table. Recent form has still been poor though with just four points from the last five games and on the road and the club has lost 50% of games away from home and earned just 17 points from 54 on the road. The club's last away game ended in a 3-0 loss against Bournemouth.

Team News:

Newcastle: Kieran Trippier is rated at 50/50 to return from a calf injury. There are long term injuries for Joseph Willock, Matt Targett, Lewis Miley, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman. Sandro Tonali is suspended for the season.

Brighton: There are no new injuries for the club but a long list of long term injuries and the following are all out; Evan Ferguson, Pervis Estupinan, Tariq Lamptey, Jack Hinshelwood, Soloman March, Adam Lallana, Jan-Paul van Hecke, Kaoru Mitoma and James Milner.

Newcastle vs Brighton Head to Head:

Last season Newcastle beat Brighton 4-1 in this fixture.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Brighton won 3-1.

It’s been three years since Brighton beat Newcastle away from home.

Newcastle vs Brighton Prediction:

Newcastle’s strengths lie in their home form and how they can dispatch teams here, based on away form alone and the Magpies would be in big trouble. As it is despite their vast injuries in this campaign Eddie Howe has done a great job and if he gets his side to qualify for the Europa League after all they have been through then his season has been a success. Brighton are a good side but have struggled in the past four months especially and we see their win over Aston Villa as a blip, let’s remember the focus for Villa as always going to be their 2nd leg semi-final European tie this week and not the league game. Back to Newcastle and we feel the Magpies won’t only win this game but will score a few goals too and give them more advancement on trying to qualify for Europe, we expect to see a few goals in this game.

Newcastle vs Brighton Betting Tips:
