Newcastle vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 8th October 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

Oh how Newcastle and Eddie Howe needed the win over Fulham last weekend because we had entered the month of October with just one win for the Magpies and even though they have only lost once so far, draws were not the expected results you can presume from the owners. But for now all of that can be forgotten as they not only beat Fulham but hammered them 4-1 away.

That result would have felt like relief and now returning back home they will be expected to win this game also and they have a terrific recent record over the Bees too. Newcastle have climbed to seventh place and are only three points away from the top four and from the last 15 points on offer they have won 6, dogged of course by draws, indeed with 5 so far no other team has more.

Brentford have started the season well and they are just a point behind their hosts. The Bees have managed 10 points from their opening 8 games and they would have taken that at the beginning of the season. Their last game ended in a 0-0 away result against Bournemouth and that followed losing 3-0 at home to Arsenal so they won’t want to go on that slippery ride to poor form, which could be happening. Let’s remember that Thomas Frank’s side are yet to win away from home also and will be facing their toughest trip yet.

Team News:

Newcastle: Alexander Isak is ruled out with a thigh injury and the bad news is that he could be missing for several weeks with no fixed return date. Allan Saint-Maximin is expected to return after over coming injury but will be assessed for fitness issues. Jonjo Shelvey is 2 weeks away from a return from his hamstring, Karl Darlow isn’t expected back until the end of the month with his ankle injury.

Brentford: Christian Norgaard is out until the end of the month due to his Achilles, Keane Lewis-Potter isn’t expected back and has a foot injury but he should be back in 10 days time. Pontus Jansson has a hamstring injury with no fixed return date.

Newcastle vs Brentford Head to Head:

Last season we were entertained to six goals as this game finished 3-3.

Newcastle have won 7 of the last 9 meetings.

Brentford have not won away to Newcastle since 1934.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Newcastle vs Brentford Prediction:

Newcastle won’t be dropping many points at home this season and this looks like being a routine win for the club. Allan Saint-Maximin is expected to return and his play will inject the game with a lot of pace. We expect the home side to come flying out of the blocks and have wave upon wave of attacks on goal. This is a Newcastle side that have a lot of goals in them and yet they would rank in 9th place in the table based on that alone. But they don’t always have to rely on out and out forwards to get the goals and this could be a difficult afternoon for Brentford.

Brentford in the shape of Ivan Toney can spring some surprises themselves but their form away from home is simply not good enough and this is one of their longest trips of the season, together with Newcastle dominating results over the past decade we can only see one winner here. The home side are odds on but still on the half of being good value for what they can bring to this game and in turn are a good price to back.
