Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park
Match Preview:
It’s not been easy for Newcastle who finished in 4th place last season but are 11 points from their target in this one and injuries have certainly taken their toll on the club. However recent form has picked up and the club have gone their last 3 games unbeaten and manager Eddie Howe will hope that this is the beginning of brighter things to come. Newcastle are in 7th place with 36 points and have fallen five points behind 6th placed Manchester United so there is a lot of work to do between now and the end of the season. The Magpies were involved in a frantic and exciting game last weekend as they came out 3-2 winners over Nottingham Forest. Goals have been the name of the game lately for the club with an epic 4-4 draw against Luton recently and Howe’s side have bagged 10 goals in their last three games and that is always an encouraging sign that fortunes are changing.
Home form for the Magpies has seen 8 wins from 12 games but they have gone their last three games here without victory after defeats against Nottingham Forest and Manchester City and then the draw against Luton. This means that the clubs last home victory came back in mid December when they beat Fulham 3-0. So far the club has won 25 points from a possible 36 at home.
Bournemouth are in 13th place with 27 points and whilst they look safe this season they will want to push on but are 8 points clear of the bottom three for now. Recent form has seen a big dip from the Cherries after a strong end to last year and they have picked up just 2 points from their last 15 on offer. The club's tenth loss of the season came against Fulham last weekend as they went down 3-1 and their last home game ended in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest. On the road the club have lost 50% of their games and gone their last three without victory, indeed we would have to go back to just before Christmas to find the clubs last win away from home which was achieved against Nottingham Forest.
Team News:
Newcastle: Reports suggest that Callum Wilson could be out for 3 months due to a tendon injury but this is initial news and the timescale has not been confirmed by the club. Jacob Murphy will be assessed for a calf injury. Joseph Willock, Matt Tartgett and Elliot Anderson are both not due back until next week and look set to miss out once again. Joelinton is out until May with a thigh injury, Alexander Isak is out with his groin, Nick Pope isn’t expected back until April due to a shoulder injury, Sandro Tonali is suspended for the season
Bournemouth: Phillip Billing is suspended and won’t return until next month. James Hill is expected to miss the next month with an ankle injury, An update on Tyler Adams suggests that the player may return in two weeks from a lengthy spell out due to his hamstring injury. Maximillian Aarons remains sidelined with a hamstring injury with no fixed return date, Ryan Fredericks is out long term with a calf injury
Newcastle vs Bournemouth Head to Head:
Last season the clubs drew 1-1 in this fixture.
In the last 9 meetings Bournemouth has managed just 1 victory although that was in the teams latest meeting, back in November when the Cherries won 1-0.
The last four meetings in a row have all seen under 2.5 goals.
Newcastle vs Bournemouth Prediction:
Newcastle has the threat of West Ham, Brighton and Chelsea who could all overtake them very soon, so there is extra motivation to push on from those sides and think of finishing in a European place. In general Newcastle have been able to achieve positive results over Bournemouth and we expect the same at the weekend. Injuries continue to threaten to derail their season but the Magpies are still strong at home overall and they are facing a side struggling with poor form.
For goalscorers for the home side it may be worth looking into midfield and even defence because some of the key attacking players are missing and this will prompt other players to come forward for set pieces and could be great value. Bournemouth look a bit lost at sea at present but we expect their form will pick up soon enough but this is a long trip for them and one where they will start as underdogs to get anything from it.
Newcastle vs Bournemouth Betting Tips:
