England Premier League

Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park
Match Preview:
Newcastle are a shoe-in to finish in the top four and although it can’t quite be confirmed this weekend they would take a giant step towards that goal. That Newcastle have been a top four side for most of the season is one thing but the Magpies probably did not envisage that they would finish as high as 3rd place and that could be the reality if they can finish the season strong.
Eddie Howe’s side are in good solid form and have won their last 3 games which has taken them past Manchester United, they have 65 points and are two points in front of United. More importantly the club are six points in front of 5th placed Liverpool and have a game in hand. At home Newcastle have only lost once this season so far which came against Liverpool and recent form has been strong with 4 wins in a row including smashing Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham 6-1, and in their last home game they beat Southampton 3-1 after going a goal down.
Arsenal are seeing their title bid slip by every week although they will know their fate a little better if Manchester City have been shocked at home to Leeds but if we go with form then City could well be 4 points clear when Arsenal’s game kicks off. Arsenal’s form has been dire and from such a high consistency their season has unfolded in the worst possible way and they have had a terrible April. The good news is that the Gunners were able to beat London rivals Chelsea in their last game winning that one 3-1 and that should have reinstalled some self belief after drawing 3 games in a row and then losing 4-1 to Manchester City. The Gunners should also be encouraged by the fact that presently they possess the best away record in the Premier League with 36 points won from a possible 51 although they haven’t claimed any wins on the road for their last 3 games, we would have to go back almost two months for their victory over Fulham.
Team News:
Newcastle: Sean Longstaff could miss out again after recovering from a foot injury, he may be assessed but this game might have come just too soon. Allan Saint- Maximin will be assessed following fitness issues. Jamaal Lascelles has been ruled out for the season with a calf injury.
Arsenal: William Saliba remains sidelined with a back injury and there are concerns he may not return this season. Gabriel Magalhaes will be assessed due to a knock and Mohammed Elneny is out long term with his knee.
Newcastle vs Arsenal Head to Head:
Last season Newcastle won this fixture 2-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the game finished 0-0.
The last four meetings have all seen under 2.5 goals.
Newcastle vs Arsenal Prediction:
Are we seeing a clear shift in these two teams histories between one another? Arsenal have enjoyed much success over Newcastle in this generation particularly and they have won 8 of the last 10 meetings over the Magpies. And yet the Gunners have failed to win the last two games and that is precisely when this Newcastle side were taken over and injected with money. Newcastle are clearly no pushovers and this game represents such a huge ask for the chasing Arsenal side.
This is such a test for Mikel Arteta’s side and we have seen the wheels come off lately and they are about to face a side full with confidence who realise at this stage that if they were to go on a poor run Manchester United and Liverpool could nab their top four place, we have seen these types of comebacks before. If this game was away from home that could be tricky for Eddie Howe’s side but on the evidence of it Arsenal come into this game as the underdogs and yet Newcastle are really good value to crush their title hopes, and that could be the smartest move here. Be warned though .this will be an intense game with so much at risk and we could see the cards flying in.
