Newcastle vs Arsenal: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 15th April 2018
Kick off at 1.30pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

It’s taken much of the season but Newcastle have found good form and come into this match on the back of 3 consecutive wins. Last weekend’s away win at Leicester was highly impressive as the Magpies look to finish the season on a positive note. Rafa Benitez’s side are now in 10th place and just four points behind Everton with two games in hand.

At St. James’ Park Newcastle have picked up 11 points from their last five games and are unbeaten this year.

In midweek Arsenal reached the semi finals of the Europa League after drawing 2-2 in Russia against CSKA Moscow and winning 6-3 on aggregate. This was a massive boost for the Gunners who have had an underwhelming season.

Arsenal will have their eye on a top 5 place and are just three points behind champions Chelsea. The Gunners have won 3 games in a row scoring 3 goals on each occasion but it is important to remember all of those wins were at home.

On the road Arsene Wenger’s men have not won a game since last December and have lost 4 matches in a row. They have won just 3 times away from home this season.

Newcastle vs Arsenal Team News:

Newcastle: There are no new injuries for Newcastle going into this game.

Arsenal: Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s injury is more serious than first thought and he could miss the rest of the season. Granit Xhaka could be back after a mild illness.

Newcastle vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Arsenal have won the last 4 games at St.James’ Park

Newcastle have not beaten Arsenal at home since 2005

The last 3 meetings have ended in the correct score for Arsenal of 1-0

Newcastle vs Arsenal Prediction:

Even though historically Newcastle have had a nightmare against Arsenal, this could be a good opportunity to break that. Arsenal had to travel to Russia only on Thursday, the club would have celebrated the win. After they arrived back in London, have a half day off and then travel to Newcastle, this is a tough ask to see a good performance from Arsenal who would have wanted this game to be moved ideally to Monday night. Newcastle can take advantage of this situation.
