Man Utd vs West Ham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 4th February 2024
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

Manchester United have scored 8 goals in their last two games and certainly there has been no shortage of entertainment at the club. In midweek they almost blew a two goal lead against Wolves but eventually came through as 4-3 winners and that has put the club into 7th place with 35 points. The interesting point here is that it is 7th v 6th and perhaps this is a moment for United to have found some decent form with one loss in their last four games, but they still lack consistency because of draws. At home United have been able to win 6 games from 11 but have been blighted by losing four times also. However home form has vastly improved in the last six weeks but the Red Devils remain unpredictable.

West Ham are being anchored by their recent results and have drawn their last three in a row and while the club are not losing games fans have been on the manager David Moyes back. It seems to boil down to the fact that the Hammers have a good attacking side and they feel that Moyes as manager is holding the club back with too much negative football. However from the outside perhaps the Hammers are just going through an average patch of form, and it seems a stretch to criticise a side who come into this weekend in sixth place. West Ham have the sixth best away record with 17 points from 33 and have lost just once in their last five games and in their last two trips have beaten Arsenal although drew with bottom club Sheffield United.

Team News:

Manchester United: Victor Lindelof will be assessed and could return. Aaron Wan Bissaka is only 50/50 due to a leg injury. Mason Mount remains a major doubt with a calf injury. Anthony Martial is out with his groin and Tyrell Malacia could be assessed but is expected to miss out again with a knee injury

West Ham: Said Benrahma is suspended, Michail Antonio and Lucas Paqueta are out with respective knee and calf injuries

Man Utd vs West Ham Head to Head:

The last time the clubs met here was in last year's FA Cup in which Manchester United won 3-1.

Earlier this season in the reverse fixture West Ham beat Manchester United 2-0.

It’s been 16 years since West Ham beat Manchester United away from home in the league.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Man Utd vs West Ham Prediction:

Manchester United have almost blown it for two games in a row but in the end managed 8 goals and that is showing us that this side, even though quite fragile at times, has a mental backbone. United haven’t always had it easy against West Ham over the years but they could be meeting the Hammers just at the right time and we will be backing the home side to walk away with all three points. You look at a player such as Marcus Rashford who got himself in trouble lately and his form hasn’t been sparkling and yet he came good scoring a goal against Wolves in midweek and United for now look fired up.

The contrast is West Ham who are not losing games but are looking jaded and running out of ideas. For sure they will come good and find form but for now we do not have all the confidence in the world to be backing the club to win games certainly not on the road.
