England Premier League
Wednesday 19th October 2022
Kick off at 8:15pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford
Match Preview:
Despite all of the noise surrounding Manchester United they are in 5th place and the goal will be to qualify for the Champions League and they are not too far from that. Last weekend though did highlight whether things have changed at the club as they could only draw 0-0 with Newcastle at home. Yes the Magpies have improved, but United put 4 goals past them in last seasons fixture and usually there are many goals in those meetings. United seem like a team who is taking one step forward but one step, perhaps not backwards just yet but certainly to the side.
Ten points from their last 15 on offer isn’t a terrible return for Erik ten Hag’s side and just one loss has occurred in that time, though it was a 6-3 defeat to rivals Manchester City. Since then they beat Everton away from home and then the draw to Newcastle. Even with a win here the likelihood is United will stay 5th but at this point they are trying to fend off Newcastle. Home form is good as they are unbeaten in their last 3 although they would rank as low as 13th based on home form alone.
Tottenham are in 3rd place and have won 70% of their games and they have bounced back well from their only defeat so far which happened against Arsenal. There have been wins over Brighton and Everton, both times keeping clean sheets and the club are in 3rd place with 23 points. Four points is the difference between the north London rivals and of course Manchester City sit in between, and this league is shaping up to be very exciting indeed. On the road it’s just one defeat for Antonio Conte’s side but also just 8 points from a possible 15, already we can see that Spurs will be much more effective at home.
Team News:
Manchester United: Christian Eriksen missed the last game through illness and will be assessed. Harry Maguire may be assessed but this game might just have come to early for him. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is missing with a knock.
Tottenham: Emerson Royal is suspended and still serving his ban for his red card against Arsenal. Dejan Kulusevski is only 50/50 to make this game following his recent hamstring injury. Richarlison could miss the next month with a calf injury.

Man Utd vs Tottenham Prediction:
There have been the rare moments where Tottenham have showed their quality in this fixture but there have been too many times when before kick off they have looked the better team, are in better confidence and then it seems to fall apart. Tottenham have enjoyed success in Manchester but that has been more at Manchester City. Of course Tottenham have had their great moments at Old Trafford including a fantastic 6-1 win just a few seasons ago but this is a game that should be very close with not much quality difference between the teams.
Richarlison’s injury is a blow but Tottenham still have attacking options and they have bounced back well from their defeat at Arsenal. It’s been a strong start from them but at the same time perhaps the fact that they couldn’t beat Arsenal away could tell us that Tottenham may still struggle on the road as the season goes on? On paper and with how the players are responding to their respective managers this looks like an away win and Tottenham look resilient enough not to lose this game, but they cannot be dictated too here. If they can control the pace of the game perhaps covering Conte’s side on the double chance could be the way to go.
