Match Preview:
An intriguing match is set to take place at Old Trafford where 5th will meet 7th on Wednesday evening.
Manchester United have played one game so far after the league restarted which ended in a 1-1 draw away to Tottenham and so this will be their first match at home. There’s a feeling within the camp that they really need to push on given that Chelsea beat Aston Villa and are into the 50 point marker now, it has left United 5 points behind.
Form has been good for the Red Devils though where they have won 11 points from their last five games and a win here would really keep the pressure on Chelsea and that final Champions League place.
Sheffield United were disappointing in losing 3-0 away to Newcastle at the weekend. This followed up a 0-0 draw at Aston Villa. They have been unlucky in the fact that this will be their 3rd straight away game since the restart and even though there are no fans present the players would like to play in their surroundings.
The Blades had just 1 shot on target against Newcastle and were not at the races and their misery was compounded when John Egan was sent off for a second bookable offence. Currently the loss hasn’t done the club huge damage in their position and if they win this match they would go above Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.
Team News:
Manchester United: Phil Jones has an ongoing issue with his knock and it’s unlikely he will feature in this game. Axel Tuanzebe also has a knock and may not recover in time
Sheffield United: John Egan is out of this match through a 1 game suspension. Dean Henderson cannot face his parent club and so misses this game
Man Utd vs Sheffield Utd Head to Head:
Earlier in the season the two sides played out a very entertaining 3-3 draw.
The clubs have only met 4 times in recent history and Sheffield United have yet to win with 3 victories for Manchester United and one draw.
The last time the clubs met at Old Trafford, Manchester United won 1-0.
Man Utd vs Sheffield Utd Prediction:
Playing Tottenham away as your first game after 3 months is not an easy task but at times United made it look that way. They went behind in the game and stayed calm, waited for their moment, which of course ended up being a penalty, but they never looked out of their depth.
Now at home against Sheffield United who have just lost 3-0 to Newcastle one could believe that United will get the win. They will be the favourites and whilst this won’t be an easy game we do expect United to get all three points.
Marcus Rashford has scored a few goals against the Blades and we will tip him to get on the score sheet. Whilst a win for Chris Wilder’s side or a draw may seem to bunch all of the teams together it would be great news for Chelsea, and the reality is that United will need to win this game. The price for a United win is around 1.44 which seems too short, so it may be better backing the club on the handicap.
