Match Preview:
The Premier League is back and the first match to open up the campaign will be Manchester United and Leicester City. Jose Mourinho will be under pressure to claim the league title this season after United’s rivals Manchester City galloped to the league championship last season and the United boss will understand that getting off to a win here is the only possible result for them. Pre season has been a nightmare despite beating Real Madrid 2-1. Mourinho has been unhappy and was happy to exclaim that “finally it is over” after another loss against Bayern Munich wrapped up their summer games.
To be fair United have been without most of their star players and Mourinho has had to play youth and fringe players, however now it is back to the business end for United, who are still at the time of writing, trying to buy two more players before the transfer deadline. United have made 3 signings this summer with the most eye catching being Brazilian Fred.
Leicester City have had a mixed pre season but did get a good 2-1 win over Lille in their last game. They finally sold Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City but have been busy in the window and bought the likes of Ricardo Pereira, James Maddison and Rachid Ghezzal for a combined £60 million.
Man Utd vs Leicester Team News:
Manchester United: Nemanja Matic will miss at least the first two weeks of the new season. Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera and Valencia are fighting to be fit for the first game.
Leicester City: New signings James Maddison and Jonny Evans are in a race against time to be fit for this game after receiving knocks. Matthew James will be out until September.

Has Jose Mourinho’s ‘summer moaning’ simply been a smoke screen for the coming season ahead or is his time with United winding down? We will know more in the next few weeks, and like always the start of a new league season can be an unpredictable one. As for Leicester, the sale of Mahrez is a big blow. They have brought in some quality players and can certainly give United a game on Friday.
This game is a tricky one to predict as the line-ups for both teams could be missing many first team regulars, however it's Man Utd who have the greater strength in depth as well as home advantage, therefore we're going for a tight home win.
