England Premier League
Saturday 2nd April 2022
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford
Match Preview:
After being knocked out of the Champions League Manchester United only have trying to finish in 4th place as a target. They come into this game in 6th place and are four points behind Arsenal in 4th and have played an extra game so their chances do not look good.
If Manchester United do lose out on 4th it won’t be because they have lost many games but more down to a lack of consistency. United beat Tottenham 3-2 in their last game but had just come from two games without a win. They have had a tendency to not beat teams that they should be beating and look set for Europa League football with so many teams in the mix for 4th. Still with their nearest rivals playing on Sunday and Monday victory here would propel them into 5th and within a point of Arsenal, but still it would look like a false dawn until everyone else had played. At the end of the day though the club can only try and win the games put in front of them.
At home it’s 8 wins from 15 and they have been very solid this year but draw every other game and they have dropped points recently at home against Southampton and Watford.
Leicester are in 10th place with 36 points and one has to wonder how up for it the Foxes will be in a potentially difficult tie? Surely now the season for Brendan Rodgers side is all about the Conference League and they will play PSV the week after. However Leicester’s form isn’t too bad and they have won 3 of their last four games with their latest victory coming against Brentford in a 2-1 win. But the highest position that Rodgers side can realistically finish is 9th as there is currently a 10 point gap to 8th.
Leicester’s big problems have come on the road and they have lost seven times and from a possible 39 points they have 12.
Team News:
Manchester United: Edinson Cavani has a calf strain but will be assessed, Cavani is the only injury worry for the club ahead of this game.
Leicester: Luke Thomas has a hamstring injury and is a major doubt to make it for this game. Jamie Vardy has a knee injury and is ruled out and isn’t expected back for at least another two weeks. Danny Ward, Ryan Bertrand and Ndidi are all out for the rest of the season with knee injuries.
Man Utd vs Leicester Head to Head:
Leicester have won the last 3 meetings against Manchester United.
We would have to go back to 2019 for the last time Manchester United beat Leicester when at home.
Leicester have scored 11 goals past Manchester United in the last 4 meetings.
Both teams have scored in the last four meetings.
Man Utd vs Leicester Prediction:
Leicester come into this game with zero pressure but at the same time will be missing some quality players and being without Jamie Vardy will certainly hinder the side. The Foxes have had some really good results over United in the last few games and can come here and feel relaxed.
All of the pressure is on United to do well they simply cannot afford to drop points here. The plus is that their Portuguese duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes will be in good spirits as they helped Portugal to reach the World Cup finals in midweek. United need to start quick and dictate the pace of the game and they should have enough to end their 3 game barren spell over the Foxes. If they can score first this should be fairly straight forward.
It is interesting to think that one of these sides is still in Europe and it isn’t the home side, is that a changing of the times for us? Forth place is now Uniteds trophy for the season and after scoring a recent hat trick against Tottenham Ronaldo will be wanting to finish the season well.
