Man Utd vs Leeds: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 20th December 2020
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

There is a feeling that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been under pressure and that he isn’t doing a good enough job at Manchester United, and yet the club have the best form in the Premier League coming into this weekend.

United have climbed up to 6th place and have won 4 of their last five matches with their last defeat back at the beginning of November when they lost at home against Arsenal.

Despite the criticism the last six weeks have been pretty perfect for United however they do have the shadow of going out of the Champions League at the group stage. It also seems to take United a long time to get going in matches. Witness how they have had to comeback lately against West Ham and Southampton.

In midweek it happened again and this time it was against bottom club Sheffield United. The Red Devils went a goal down again before going on to win the game 3-2. Man United have now won seven games - only Liverpool and Leicester have won more.

The problem for Man United this season has been their home form, they currently have the 4th worst record in the league and have lost 50% of their games at Old Trafford. It’s a staggering statistic to see that they have won just once at home so far and that was against West Bromwich Albion and even then the final score was only 1-0.

Leeds are in 13th place with 17 points and whilst they have been hit or miss this season there is no denying they are an entertaining side to watch and Steve Bruce had a ringside seat in midweek. The Newcastle manager was left furious as Leeds ran out 5-2 winners against the Magpies and recorded their 5th win of the season. It was a great win for Marcelo Bielsa’s side and to rub salt in the wounds they went past Newcastle too.

A win for Leeds would seem them flirting with the top 10 and form is decent but they have lost 2 games from their last five. Away from home they have won 3 and lost 3, and their last away match ended in a 3-1 loss at Chelsea.

Team News:

Manchester United: Edinson Cavani remains a doubt with his groin injury but will face a late test. Marcos Rojo was all set to make his comeback but now has a calf injury whilst playing for the reserves and he will miss the rest of the year.

Leeds: No new injuries for Leeds but they will be missing Robin Koch, Adam Forshaw and Diego Llorente all longer term injuries.

Man Utd vs Leeds Head to Head:

The last time the clubs met at Old Trafford was in 2010 in the FA Cup when Leeds won 1-0.

The last league meeting was in 2004 when the game finished 1-1.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Leeds haven’t beaten Manchester United in the league at home since 1981.

Man Utd vs Leeds Prediction:

Are Manchester United ever going to make a statement this season? That statement should be controlling a game with no comebacks and putting in a display that satisfies everyone connected to the club. And perhaps that is why there is still so little confidence in a United team managed by Solskjaer, that everything even victories seems so on the edge that it could easily just go the other way.

Leeds will be a threat, they took the lead at Chelsea the other week but there is no doubt that especially away from home there is naivety in Bielsa’s side. This could be a close game though but we don't feel it's worth taking the away side on the handicap as we see Man Utd's counter attacking game being perfect to combat Leeds' style of play. Manchester United have the team to win this match, they really do, but up until now they simply won’t have earned many punters trust to put this game to bed but we feel they will get all three points.
