Man Utd vs Leeds: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 8th February 2023
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

Such was the worry that Leeds could be going down, the board would rather that the manager’s job was vacant going into this game rather than have Jesse Marsch in charge and the American has been sacked on the eve of this game. Marsch is gone with not even a year in charge but was it the right decision? Certainly the club were falling down the league table and while they were struggling to win games they were not losing many with 3 draws from their last five. But the bottom line is that they won 9 points from their last 30 under Marsch.

Leeds come into this huge battle in midweek in 17th place with goal difference meaning they are not in the bottom three. Victory would take them to 15th until at least the weekend but not many people will be expecting that outcome. Leeds have won just 1 game on the road so far and are conceding 2 goals per game. Their last away game and Marsch’s last was a 1-0 loss against Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United are in 3rd place with 42 points and have opened up a two point gap to Newcastle. The Red Devils had gone two games without a win but got back on track at home by beating Crystal Palace 2-1 last weekend. Erik ten Hags’s side have the advantage of staying at home once again for this pair up and will be feeling confident. Because of goal difference United will not be able to go past Manchester City but would join them on the same points with a win here. That in itself would be quite remarkable given the gulf in the two sides over the past decade.

The Red Devils form has been solid with 10 points won from their last 15. There was two points dropped at Palace a few weeks ago not of huge concern to the mindset of the side given it was a last kick draw from the Eagles. A 3-2 defeat away to Arsenal was also not seen as the biggest blow as United played their part in that epic game however Ten Hag will want the December and January good vibes to come back so they don’t have to keep looking over their shoulder and try and qualify for the next seasons Champions League. At home the club has one of the best records in the league and they have won 80% of their games so far scoring seven goals in their last three games here.

Team News:

Manchester United: Casemiro is suspended for the next 3 games, Scott McTominay looks set to miss out again due to recovery from an ankle injury. Christian Eriksen is not due back for between 7-8 weeks with his ankle injury.

Leeds: Ankle injuries have account for the losses to Rodrigo, Sonny Perkins and Archie Gray. Stuart Dallas is out long term with a leg injury. Adam Forshaw is hoping to be back in 10 days time from his hip injury.

Man Utd vs Leeds Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 5-1 to Manchester United.

In the last two league meetings when Manchester United were at home they have scored 11 goals past Leeds.

Leeds have not won at Old Trafford in the league since 1981.

Man Utd vs Leeds Prediction:

Manchester United start as the obvious favourites but their price of 1.44 may put some off. United have enjoyed a lot of success over Leeds who seemingly dread coming here and the club look really align with the manager and the fans are happy too. They are coming up against a side battling down there who have just sacked their manager and we expect a straight forward win. It’s always very difficult playing away in a midweek evening game anyway but this just seems very much beyond Leeds at this present time.

United will miss Casemiro but they have plenty of quality in midfield and have goals in them and that is why it is worth backing them on the asian handicap market which will bring in better value for us at no extra risk. Marcus Rashford continues to be in fantastic form so there is no need to shy away from him scoring and we will be backing him also. It is surprising to see him at 2.10 to do so against this Leeds defence so take that on. This should be an easy 3 points for United.

Man Utd vs Leeds Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Manchester United) at 1.73

Anytime goalscorer: Marcus Rashford at 2.10
